Personally, I do not like the coated strings.
Yes they will hold up a bit longer from the humidity, the salt (from both sweat and air) and have the "anti-rust" coating, but hey aren't we in the Caribbean? Is there such a thing as "anti-rust"?
The feeling of these coated strings is like playing on a Spanish acoustic with nylons after having your hands dipped in grease. No thanks.
We all have our own opinions....I'd rather pay the $15- for a new set.

There were some "gold" plated string once... many years ago... didn't work either... too dull on the Steel... and the coating wouldn't hold up with the steel bar.
I play a single neck 12 stringer... the lowest being a 0.078" dia. These buggers are expensive... and they hold up 3 days as of right now. AC'ing a room will probably be the only option for me.
