Default A few hours in Santiago...recommendations?
Hi all,

I'll have 3 or 4 hours to spare before checking in for my flight home and was wondering if anyone could recommend a local driver who could show us a few sights and a good place to grab a bite to eat and a few beers? We're a group of 7 so we'd need two cars or a van.

I've looked through all of the terrific Santiago info here but since I do not know where anything is, I haven't been able to come up with a (decent) plan, and I think a local guide would be our best bet for such a short time. Is the monument worth checking out? Anything good restaurants nearby?

Thanks for any information you can share. We'd really appreciate some help!

I would recomend going to El Monumento for sure. As for restaurants, u can check out the area around el monumento as there are MANY good restaurants and a casino in walking distance! as far as a driver, I have a taxi driver who "may" be able to help u out or refer u to somebody. A quick visit to Centro Leon is worth the effort. They have the best gift shop if you want Dominican with quality. If not go down Sol street to Mercado Modelo and buy some cachibachi...

The Monumento is also good for eating...and people watching.

So here you have a few hours:
Centro Leon
Calle del Sol
Monumento.

Plenty of cold beer available at all three places...

If your a group of adults, couples take a cab to Bora Bora Cabanas and get a presidential suite for you and your spouses and enjoy a really niice room with room service!!!!
Why waste time in traffic go for it!

Not sure this is what the OP's 'group of 7' is looking for...

My advice is to take a cab to the monument. You could easily kill a few hours there. The monument has a small museum and there are several restaurants nearby. On the weekends there are a dozen food stands (try the yaroa!) and approximately one million beer vendors. Plenty more within walking distance. I don't think you need the guide.
