Default Course Tour: Las Aromas Golf Club

Chip and I played Las Aromas Golf Club a while ago. I took some pictures for a Course Tour here on DR1 hoping others would do the same for every course on the island. I did one before for Jarabacoa Golf Club: Jarabacoa Golf Club

This course was the first I ever played in my young golf career, courtesy of the ever-patient Hillbilly (“Better use this 3 wood. And choke up. You can use the control…”). I had played it once before with Chip, so this was my third go at it.

Chip shot a few strokes over par for the 18 holes, and I had a surprising 85. However, Chip still insisted I play the back 9 no matter what my front 9 score was...

Santiago is fortunate to have such a fine, reasonably-priced course carved out of the high hills across the river west of downtown. Las Aromas is a Pete Dye designed 6000 yard Par 70 course with all sorts of challenges to it: water, hills, narrow fairways, bunkers, doglegs…you name it. There are some threads with the most reasonable green fees (one is: golf in santiago).

Here are pics of each hole. I tried to show where the green is in relation to the teebox. All distances are from the blue tees. I didn’t take any pictures of the entrance, clubhouse or other amenities. Perhaps someone else here has done so.

Now, the Course Tour. Fell free to add comments so folks can get a good idea of how the course looks and plays.

My favorite holes are #1, 5 & 9 because of the elevations of the tees, and #12 & 16, Par 3’s, because of the water right in front of the greens-you better be precise!

Overall, a fine course, a great price and some really nice folks playing there. It feels like “home.”

Nice Pics CB & they show the course well.

Just one thing though - #4 is #5 & #5 is #4, you have them inverted. I presume therefore this means that that your favourite holes were 1, 4 & 10? ........... They certainly are spectacular. Pete Dye had a knack of scaring the $**t out of you whilst standing on the Tee!!

I'll try to do a similar photo-shoot of Playa Dorada & Playa Grande in the next couple of weeks. ~ Grahame.
