Martinez and Marichal cockfighting video

While I am no fan of animal cruelty I think maybe we are getting a little too PC when a video of a couple of baseball players at a cockfight in the DR makes headlines on SI.

I was surprised that Michael Vick's case went so far and got so much publicity not to mention the jail time he got. People have done worse to other people and paid less.

I hope this doesn't turn into something ugly, after all it is legal here in the DR even though I'm no fan of it.

I saw this also in the NY Post today. Anyone that has been living in the DR for any length of time knows that after baseball comes cockfighting in popularity over here. Of course a rag like the NY Post will make Pedro out to be the worst villain possible.

My take on the people who will be attacking Pedro is if you do not agree with what he did you should never eat another chicken again. At least these birds have a chance, the ones in Perdue or Col. Sanders business do not.

I'm a bleeding-heart nincompoop, and I hate all manners of violence, including cockfighting, but allow me this opportunity to agree with your opinion of the NY Post.

I also met Pedro, and in a room-full of hangers-on, he spoke to me as if I was the only person there: impressive. So, I doubt anything from the tabloid called the NY Post could harm him.

Here is more info on this with pictures. On a personal level, cock fighting does bother me, but I think these people are over blowing his thing big time. What I do find interesting is who or why was the you tube video pulled.

I'm not into hero-worship, so I shouldn't defend Pedro. But you know how it is when you meet someone and they treat you respectfully: you go to bat for them.

So, one way for Pedro to undo the harm is by claiming cockfighting as a religious ritual. And since Americans respect any and all religions, then case closed.

Pedro has done so much for the poor and has always been on his best behavior as far as I know and now he's invited to this cockfight and everyone dumps on him. arghghghgh why can't the media focus on the good deeds?

I don't agree in mistreating any animal but do people stop and think how much meat they eat in a year and what those animals have gone through to feed them?????

It seems that some people just don't want to accept the fact that someone can be a role model for them. Instead of growing and learning from that person - they NEED to poor dirt on him. Sort of like - look, he is not that great, really. Just like one of us.
