To answer your question.
Season is from 20 something October to early February. Includes Caribbean Series.
Stadiums of importance are
Quisqueya in Santo Domingo
Tetelo Vargas in San Pedro de Macoris
Julian Javier in San Francisco de Macoris
Francisco Michili in La Romana and Estadio Cibao, home of the Champion Aguilas Cibaeñas!! In Santiago...
POP does have a good building, and I think it houses one of the teams that play inthe summer. These are rookie league players, just beginning. Worth seeing.

I am coming for a week in the end of march. i am also wondering about baseball. Are there any leagues that play that time of year? any baseball will do: school boy, amateur, pro, i just want to see some good baseball.

The Olympic park right in the heart of the city always offered baseball year-round.
They're almost all prospects, and you'll see some buscones around, either watching or involved in the practice.
If you like raw baseball, this will surely satiate your needs. The games move fast, and you won't see too many full counts, that I can assure you.
As they say "you don't walk off the island."

There are games in many school/local fields pretty much every day, all year long.... but no "major" league games during the US MLB season.

This was/is in the capital.
I couldn't help you in the north country, perhaps Hillbilly or some of the northern clan can direct you. I'm sure Santiago has some lots where kids are playing ball in.
If you like it raw, just bring a broom stick and a handful of those 5 gallon water jug tops (forget the spanish name) into a barrio and you'll be amazed.
I don't mean that literally, but if you're walking around and see that going on, stop and watch. And, if you're in the barrio, take off your "watch".

i want to experience all of that. i think for 1 or maybe 2 days we will travel to santiago or to santo domingo to see some more organized ball, but i want to see the kids playing with the broom stick and bottle cap- i have heard about that before. no wonder its so easy for some of these guys to hit a baseball if they can hit those things with a broom stick. somebody mentioned to me that i could hire a driver/tour guide to check out the island. is this a good idea, or should i rent a car?
