Manny Ramirez - All Times Best Dominican Hitter
Enjoying the HR Manny hit today in the 9th against Cleveland to go ahead and consequently win the game, I think this hitter needed a threat, I think that right know Manny Ramirez is the all time best Dominican Hitter ever (taking into account that Arod is American and feels himself as an American) Manny has 493 HRs, .313 Batting Average, 1618 RBI (standards Stats) and a .409 On Base Percentage, .593 Slugging Average and a OPS of 1.002 one of only 11 in Major League Baseball History to have a OPS over 1.000. I know that Sammy has a lot more HRs but he isn't the same class of hitter that Manny is. In contrast in Percentage Stats Sammy only hit .273 BA with an OBP of .344 and a SLG of .534. For me Manny is the best Dominican Hitter actually, at least until Albert Pujols catches a few more years under his belt.

..but if Sosa is the only parallel, then yeah, he's definitely the best.
Pujols and MeRod strike me as American more than Dominican. I realize Planet Manny's big bang occurred in Washington Heights, but to me he's totally Dominican.
As I've said before, I consider myself more Dominican than MeRod is. I'm sure I've eaten more mangu, sancocho and plantains than he ever has.

The second that Albert Pujols' elbow explodes he will never be the same, so I would leave him out of the discussion right now because he has been playing hurt with it for a while and refuses to get the surgery he needs.
Ridiculous on the part of the Cardinals and Tony LaRussa to let this guy play that way when all it will take is one swing of the bat for his career to be put in serious jeopardy.

Couldn't agree more and what's worse is that we'll all be left saying, "what if..." which is going to suck. Pujols is an amazing talent and can hit with the best of them but his career longevity is in danger.
Anyways, Pujols is straight up Dominican, not doubts about that. He was born here and says he's Dominican, unlike DoocheRod, who doesn't know whether he's happy or sad. DoocheRod is a tool and deserves to never win a championship. I'm glad the Yankees resigned him....300 million later and no championships!! Go CUBBIES!!
Either way wipe the 'Dominican' out of the OP's original post. Ramirez is one of the best hitters of all time and one of the best big game/crucial situation hitters. I mean end of the day, who else could fill the 4 spot like Manny? Granted he has the 3 spot protection of Big Papi, but still the man can hit a baseball. Add to that his ability to hit the spots and has range in the batters box. Had he had more patience at the plate he could have been a more effective hitter, i.e placing the ball like Tony Gwyn did, but at the end of the day he can hit.

He hits for power and RBI's - remember what the Babe said, if he just wanted to hit little "dinkers" he could have batted 0.600.

I agree, Manny is a power guy through and through. I just think that he has the talent and skills to be an all around hitter. You know placing the ball, like a singles and doubles guy. This might be a neccesary change for him as he gets older and can't power through like he has in the past. We are already seeing some of his numbers diminish. So using his skills could prolong his career.
Unlike power hitters like McGuire and Sosa, for example who just hit the ball, Manny has a good eye for the ball. I mean had he had a bit of patience, and worked in an offense that required that of him, I think he could have been a better all around hitter. Regardless of the fact Manny is still a danger and ranks up there with some of the best.

Not a complete hitter?
But Mr. Lu you want Manny to be a more complete Hitter that he has been??, he has hit over .320 6 times in his career always hitting with power, while beeing very patient, taking almost 85 Bases on balls every season with an OBP over 400 in his career line.
The guy is just the triple crown hitter one would expect. About him adjusting to hitting just dinkers he still has a lot of pop left in his bat as shown in his kilometrics HRs he keeps hitting.

I'll keep it brief.
Behind ARod, Manny is the 2nd most feared hitter in the game. And has been for a very long time. Pujols needs more years to be considered. Big Papi needs to do it on his own. DON'T EVER put Sosa in the same conversation as Manny.
From Cleveland to Boston, Manny supplied the goods, especially in the clutch. His numbers are legit, as is the fear that opposing teams have for him. He's gonna have another big year. One only wonders if Boston will pony up to keep him.
When he's done, he'll rightfully take his place as the best Dominican hitter in the game. And all this he's from Washington Heights, this one's not Dominican enough crap is just semantics. The DR runs through his veins.

For all of his quirks, Manny Ramirez is just easier to root for because he and Big Poppi are so likable, and that is the big difference between them and A-Rod.
I remember when Manny was playing for the Indians. There was a section in left field at Yankee Stadium where I assume he had tickets for his dominican friends to see him play.
That part of the outfield was always so much more raucous and noisy than the others-I always found it nice to see how they supported one of their own.
And no one knows how to have fun like dominicans. They brought an atmosphere that is unique among baseball fans to the Stadium, and if you've never been to a game in the DR you are really missing something special.
