Manny goes west...to the Dodgers and Joe Torre.

Damn!!! You beat me to it!!!
I just heard about the trade 5 minutes ago and could not believe it.
Boston DOES suck.
Good luck getting anyone NEAR as good at the plate, especially in crunch time when it counts.
They can kiss anymore world series appearances goodbye for the next 86 years.
You just can't break up a 1-2 punch like him and Big Poppi and think the move won't have negative consequences for your team.

As a SF Giants fan I am happy, as I will get to see Manny live when LA comes to SF. This was a win-win situation for all parties involved.

I will agree on one thing, Manny is great, but he's not going to play for the next 86 yrs. All of you said the same thing when we let Pedro go. Where is he now, 2w-3l for 08, he should resting in the DR ..Without him we still averaged over 97 wins per season and another title. Also, why would you think we would help any NY team with this move? Take A Rod out of your lineup for 7 weeks like we had w/ Big Papi this summer, and see if you would still be in a pennent race. Our Redsox Nation is a team, not one player alone on a mountain top. Just look at who has the best GM in baseball the last 6 years, Theo Epstein Rules MLB and it's future. Bosox Nation is alive and well!!!

Did you have a Viagra right before you wrote that?
I'm glad to see him go, but will certainly miss his production.
As for the entirety of the trade, the Sox got pennies on their dollar, and the Pirates and Dodgers made out well. From the details I've seen, the Sox gave up Moss and Hansen in addition to the Planet.
Neither will be a Hanley Ramirez type player, but end of the bench/bullpen. The Marlins probably lost the most, they should have eased up on their asking price, he'd be a good fit there.

I'm a Boston fan too...I was just venting only because I like him and his production, especially in the playoffs.
I don't understand what I heard-he is looking for a 4 year contract at 25 mil per. His agent Scot Boras can't possibly think anyone is going to pay him that much money when his stats have been declining steadily the last few years.
He's a great player, but facts are facts. And the fact that he went from "Manny being Manny to "Manny being an A-Hole" isn't going to endear him to many clubs out there.

jason bay is actually putting up numbers at least as good, if not better than manny's the last couple of years. and he's been playing in pnc park - no hitters park there, especially for lefties. of course the AL east has better pitching than he's been seeing, but fenway should more than make up for that. boston will be fine in this.
sure, the sox did overpay, but tampa bay got involved at the 11th hour and drove the price up. neither one of those prospects would have lasted here in boston anyways, but will both get a chance to show their stuff in pittsburg. good luck guys
manny is going to feast on NL pitching and he'll love it out in LA. i think he's going to have a tremendous 2nd half. everyone should make out pretty well in this deal
