Quisqueya stadium to be redone for WBC bid
According to ESPN, the Quisqueya stadium will be renovated to the tune of US115M in order to win a bid to host part of the 2013 WBC. It will be renamed Juan Marichal Stadium.
I just hope MLB takes notice of what happened here last year during the Caribbean Series and puts a limit on the number of tickets that can be sold at one time.

I kind of like the way the stadium is now.
Any mention of who was funding the renovations?
I was sad to see County Stadium go in Milwaukee. One of my favorite old-style ballparks.

This had come out in the Dominican press a few weeks ago. President Leonel Fernandez made mention of it in February, in the wake of the political action summit. This was one of the goals of his administration.
In the end the remodeling should be private and forget about naming it Juan Marichal Stadium. The naming rights should be sold to the highest bidder. A project of this magnitude, if t goes through, should be private and foreign. Anything thing else will be a major clusterf**k.....
But its a shame that in a nation where baseball is so important and generates so much money and media attention the facilities are horrid. Anyways, hope it gets done, though I am not sure it will.....As always, I hope I am wrong.

nice
Nothing against that.
But to invest so much money for a 3 weeks or so event. where country
had so many school with childrens that have not place to sit down in the school and a nation that need more hospitals, ambulances, power plants, cant believe this. At least if they say that part of the revenues will be use for building and fixing school then its a good idea.
Then in other hand. these players are not playing ball with the same passion to reprent the country. The just embarassed the country lossing against a country that baseball is not even a national sport in the WBC.
Any team Tigers, Licey or Escogido without the "Super Heros" prob. would have had better results.
I respect all your opinions but the country should focus in better issues at this point.
and to call the stadium "Juan Marichal" heheh because he is related some
how to Mr. Leonel Fernandez. Why not George Bell, Felipe Alou,.
Hopefully they will use all the money that has being confiscated from Narco.

$115 million is nothing compared to the almost $1 billion dollar investment the government makes in public education alone every year. Much more useful would be the elimination of the US$1.1 billion useless electricity (or maybe should it be blackout) subsidy. Now that is a real waste of resources!
