Tejada is called "El Pelotero de la Patria", he has never failed to represent the DR in international events even in the winter of 2003-04 when he played winter baseball and in "Serie del Caribe" just after winning his MVP award in the MLB.
Different from other so-called stars, Tejada went to both Baseball Classics and always says he is done playing winter baseball every year just to put on the uniform in december and help his Aguilas win the championship, that's a feat that even us Liceystas admire and respect from him. Other Dominican baseball players stop playing winter ball as soon as they hit 25 HRs in MLB and feel they are some kind of "star".
Money hasn't gotten to his head and he is always trying to help his community however he can as showed when he spent RD$12MM building a baseball complex in his native Bani. When he had problems with the US Justice Department last year everybody in the DR supported him including the Congress and his native Bani as showed in this link:
