i don't dislike Pedro but i think as NL contenders the Phils should take a wait and see approach. he adds to their team and let's hope the don't overuse him.

The Phillies are the NL favorite - by a wide margin - in my opinion.
I think our (the Phillies) only question mark right now is Lidge. He needs that knee to be fully healthy to be as effective (perfect) as last year. Having Pedro as a 5th starter is just an added bonus. I wonder how many Phillies hats/Jerseys are being sold in DR or the Heights.

..but what do I know. They've been up by a crooked number in the late innings, but yes Lidge will have a huge impact on their ultimate success.

Pedro showed some improvement although didn't pitch great and got hit pretty hard but managed to get through 6 innings and got the win. He even added an RBI single. Although the coolest moment was the unnassisted triple play to wrap up the Mets in the bottom of the 9th.

Listening to Pedro talk remains a source of mild amusement to me. It seems life he is impressed with himself that he has learned English so well he really relishes in the ability to express himself and keeps talking just to hear himself talk.

He had at least a 6 run lead before he really got started, that makes a HUGE difference in pitching. Huge!!

Your second paragraph is absolutely spot-on! I'm surprised he doesn't refer to himself in the third person - ala Rickey Henderson.

He has a huge crush on himself. If he wasn't dating someone, I think he'd date himself.

Pedro continues to contribute for the Phillies as he is 5-0 with an ERA of 2.87. He went 8 full innings on 130 pitches in the second game of a double header with the Mets allowing 0 runs. Ironically, the Mets were mathmatically eliminated in this game! It looked dicey in the top of the 8th with 2 outs and Murphy on second after a double. Phils manager Charlie Manuel sauntered out and it looked like Pedro's night might be done but he was allowed 1 more batter. Phils catcher then stopped a pitch in the dirt but the ball rolled a few feet away letting Muprhy think he should break for 3rd. Ruiz fired an off balance bullet to get Murphy.

The Phillies held on 1-0 and Pedro is starting to feel the love from Philadelphia fans (myself included)!

I must say he has made a nice comeback. If the Phillies progress well into the playoffs and possibly to the WS his contribution will be magnified.

Default Bullpen is a bigger problem

I'm reposting the same title.

Bullpen is still there biggest problem.

Impressive start for Pedro.

If they make the second round, I'm sure he'll get a start.

The stage is set for Pedro's biggest start in recent history (biggest start ever in my mind as a Phillies fan). He had a great effort wasted 2 weeks ago against the Dodgers but at least it shows he can still perform under pressure (though World Series at Yankees stadium under chants of "who's your daddy? will raise the ante).

Pedro's skills projecting his stream of conciousness to reporters were on display yesterday - let's hope he backs up his words, the well rested bullpen can hold on, and the bats stay clutch (if they got to CC then Burnett could be in trouble).

While CC was not sharp, it was Lee who "got to" the Yankees with a great game. Lee had a very special game . I could not see as a viewer why the Yankees could not hit Lee. He must have a great delivery.

I don't have much faith in Burnett. It does not bode well for the Yankees after losing game one, but I still hope they can prevail.
