Default Easy to move to USA?

Hi

I am a UK citizen (non- dominican), but planning on moving to USA (most likely NY or Florida) to work within the next year, year and a half.
My boyfriend is Dominican, and were wondering how hard would it be for him to move to the same place. And then to find work.
He has family in NY if that helps, and he used to live there for a while as a child.

What kind of time scales are we looking at.

Thought some of you guys would be able to give us a better idea, because allt h advice he has been getting sounds wrong and everyone is contradincting everybody else.

Thanks!!!

Amisha

It's very difficult, almost impossible, for a Dominican to get a visa to the US. Most visas are granted to fiancees, or spouses of US citizens, or parents of Naturalized US Citizens.

As far as I know Europeans who move to the US to work temporarily, less than 2 years, can take their spouse with them. But this only applies to those married, and most likely only to non-EU (e.g. Dominican) partners if they have some permanent residency status in Europe.

Dont think so, ill ask him tonight.
I know his dad lives between DR and NY.
He used 2 live there with his mum and 2 little sisters, and even went to school there for a bit...
but he was only around 12 at the time.

Another query - a good few years ago, his aunty and gran who were in Switzerland were able to obtain a visa for him to go there, but he had to return to DR within 90 days.

Can they get one like that to go to any country?
I.e when i move to US, would he be able to get visas to allow him to come in and out of the USA? without permanatly residing there?

Probably Not. It is easier to get a visa to Europe than the US.

You have to keep in mind that it's not the Dominican Republic that's keeping them from going anywhere. Each country has their own immigration laws to be followed. What one country allows has no barring on another country when it comes to visas.

So look up each country you want to go to and read what the immigration laws are for Dominicans. Or rather what countries need visas to get in.
