Dominican Men in New York

Sorry for the LONG Post, but I gotta get this off my chest:

So I am new to NY and I am a dark-skinned Afro-Cubana/African-american (but heritage is from Martinique). There are very few non-white Cubans in America for various political reasons, which makes dating hard because I am attracted to men of color (morenos, negros, prietos, mulattos, indios, me da lo mismo). I like African-American men too, but I miss out on my cultura hispana, and am interested in dating a Dominican man.

The only thing is...well...I went to a club called Umbrella the other day with some friends, and it was chock full of cute Dominican guys, but none of them seemed interested. I have very fine features and curly hair down my back (although this doesn´t necessarily define beauty to me, I know how men of color can be and they seem to like that sh!t) and a really nice body and all, but I think my skin color was just not appealing to them at all! When I spoke Spanish, people looked mad surprised and asked me why i speak Spanish. I was like, "why do YOU speak Spanish?" I feel so excluded when I go out looking for Dominican guys with my friends....should I just give up? Or do I need to start playing baseball like David Ortiz or Vladimir Guerrero for my skin color to be desirable?! Or am I just being silly?

Hummmm....well you do have a good sense of humor that's always good..........but on your profile it says you are married........are you?

I would have guess you Colombian than carribbean, even though carribbeans comes in all colors. Girl get out on the dance floor and do the merengue and bachata and you'll attract attention.

It sounds like just like you seem to have a very narrow minded vision of the world a lot of people who hang out at the places you go also have a narrow vision. You only like men of color and guess what? Dominicans (the uneducated narrow minded ones anyway) are looking for a light skin / white girl to show off as trophy.

I think you look all right (Your face at least as I couldn't see your body), but I can tell you that you're not what a lot of Dominican guys I know would consider good looking. Girls with your look are a dime a dozen in The DR and as I'm sure you know people are normally attracted to what's different. MAR gave you some good advice, if you know how to dance - and I mean really know how to dance Bachata, Salsa, etc - get on the dance floor. Dominicans are always attracted to a girl that can dance her a$$ off...

you are being silly, even the most attractive girl in the world isnt attractive to everyone-we tend to try more with people who arent attracted to us for some weird reason

Please read my post again and try to understand what I'm trying to convey to you. I do think making a statement as "I'm attracted to < Insert color here>" is narrow minded and ignorant, but to each its own. Nowhere did I say no man will want you or that you're ugly (I even said I think you look all right) or uneducated...I was trying to explain to you the typical mentality of this type of Dominican you're trying to attract and the fact that normally they would be looking for the opposite of you (light skin / white girl).

You didn't even read about the advice MAR gave you and I reiterated regarding helping you attract the kind of attention you're looking for...Take the advice. If that doesn't work then go down to The DR and make everyone know that "you have a visa"... and you'll be swatting them away.

I agree with suarez on the narrow minded part, about SOME of the Dominican males............Lolinda maybe you should venture out to Queens and hang in the Colombian clubs....they are more open and friendlier.
