1. Non dominican born or skilled expat dominicans DR1ers, with the time and resources can volunteer or teach In the country.
2. Dominican born expats should focus on insuring that the money that they send to their relatives in the DR is being used for the right things: Food, education etc.. and not luxury goods. Unfortunately, as it stands entire extended families are majorly dependent on their relatives living in the u.s., canada and europe.
3. The better off amongst us, should invest in projects and buisinesses in the DR. Not solely cash cows that cater to tourists or the dominican upper class, but those that provide opportunities for the lower classes.

The DR1 community, to me, is basically a large group of people who have only one thing in common, their love of the DR. My question then is; Name 3 things (only 3) that we as a collective community or as individuals can do that could make a positive impact on the Dominican Republic and its people.

read a book in public (set an example)
throw trash in cans (set an example)
breed more ( to improve the hair quality)

1) Help all the good guys who need help.
2) Screw up up all the bad guys as much as you can without getting yourself in trouble.
3) Never reward bad behaviour.

1: I always yield to Pedestrians, it's amazing how astonished and appreciative they are.
2: Bring something unique and different to the mix, at work or in social settings, not unduly concerned about blending in.
3: Maintain my own personal integrity and not stoop to a lower level of morality out of convienience.

Instill the necessity to make a good impression and excellent reperesentation of the people in the DR. Maybe by doing that, it would play a positive effect on the stereotypical that many foreigns use to discrive the general attitude of the dominican people.
Teach Haitians to care a little about our rain forests.
Persuade poor dominicans not to risk their lives by migrating to uncertainty, and show them the true facts of life and the humiliations that they most likely would encounter and would have to endure if they do make it.
