If several of these firefighters did not return to Santiago after their supposed training in the U.S, then this becomes another glaring example of why the American consulates are so very difficult on the general Dominican population to obtain U.S. tourist visas. Such illegal defections only perpetuate the U.S.'s tough stance on entry visas granted to Dominicans.

i'm sure they're hiding out somewhere in Washington Heights with their other illegal friends or relatives. as compared to a fire captain, i guess a life as an illegal is not so bad.

isn't it a bit of a worry that firefighters are promoted to Captain based upon their ability to catch a flight home rather than their ability to fight fires?
