History Forum?

I was just wondering if the powers that be would consider adding a thread dedicated to history. It seems like the stuff about history is strewn all over the place and the history threads in the debates section would have one believe that there are three or four "parallel world" Dominican histories out there - just an idea.

I agree. It would be cool to learn more about Dominican history and maybe read some real life stories you cannot find in a book.

Good idea chip but will it be a forum like the Trujillo threads?

Are you volunteering to write a history thread so we can make it a stickie for all newbies to read in the future? Will what is written be up for debate or will it be for info purposes only?

Can anyone post in it and who will be in charge of deleting wrong history info?

I figure it would be an open forum and the guys who are getting paid the big bucks can moderate it.

Obviously some ground rules should be written up to make the moderators job at enforcement easy such as "Threads revising the generally accepted history of the DR will be allowed only 5 times a day", haha! No really, we could ban from the History thread the few repeat offenders who somehow think it's their duty to rewrite history according to what suits them instead of following the generally standard practice of having "legitimate" sources. Of course people will ask what are legitimate sources, etc? - that will have to be worked out maybe by a peer board made up by those with recognized credentials, such as HB, Rafael Rothschchild?, etc.

Also, I would like to see a "Humanitarian" thread considered, mainly to act as a gathering place for the proliferous mission activities going on here in the DR and I would act as moderator if need be. Some might question this but if this forum is really to serve the english speaking peoples interested in the DR I don't see why not and besides I haven't found any other site out there to handle it. I got the idea as I have a good friend from childhood who is a doctor who wants to come over here and do some mission work and I know it is done frequently but there doesn't seem to be a webpage to get this info other than one's dedicated to specific missions.

There is a big mission "market" if you will and serving this community will only add to the DR1's credibility. If somehow there is a feeling that this might be incompatible with some of the "other" threads for those "surfing" the forums we could put those few "incompatible" threads in a restricted area whereupon a notice comes up and says bla, bla, 18 years old, not suitable for children etc., bla, bla.

You have a good idea about having DR History threaad.
Hope Robert will authorize it and make it a "sticky".
