Squat, not only that, it also applies to party activists (aka dirigentes). the easiest ones with less party disciplene and easier to buy off generally come from the PRD and the PRSC. It workded like a charm for the PLD during the '06 election, and so I doubt Leonel will have a hard time poaching off the corners of those two parties..

A condition for Leonel's getting Don Quijote's full support may be a guarantee by Leonel to fully back him as the pld nominee for 2012..

Don't make me say it, but you know diddly-squat (no pun intended...;-) about Dominican politics. You are not aware of several important developments. Here's some, for starters, 1) the PLD has made a terrible mistake by putting all their chips on one number, Leonel Fernández; 2) the PLD is badly splintered, considering that Danilo Medina hasn't said peep-squeak since losing the nomination, on the contrary, he has cried fowl (sp);-); 3) Many government officials and political cronies associated with Leonel's administration are abandoning ship. It's almost every man for himself, trying to enrich themselves the most before they're out of office, leaving less government resources available to contribute to Leonel's reelection campaign; 4) the campaign war chests of the PRD and the PRSC (now that Amable Aristy is the candidate) are full to the brim, and ready for the challenge, buck-for-buck, with the government and the government party's resources; 4) Leonel's popularity is now hovering around the mid 30 percentile points, which means that his administration is increasingly wearing out, and will continue to do so until election day...

Isn't Aristy the "Presidente de los Pobres"? Throwing money out of a helicopter certainly goes along with a) being Amable, and b) being "el presidente de los pobres." Perhaps he could spruce up his image a little by wearing green tights, green vest, green hat with feather, quiver and bow, he could be like the Dominican Robin Hood! This way even the illiterate can relate to him being the president for the poor, and perhaps all that green garb might take attention away from his big nose! you know image is important - Clinton didn't win on his policies alone.
btw
fowl = birds, foul = wrong, bad et.c
and "gaggle of ragamuffins and indigents " nice word usage!

Folks, as Lil' Bush would say, you are misunderestimating Amable. He didn't become Balaguer's protegé because of his looks. He's one astute individual, and he will become president one day, unless his health deteriorates again.

Aristy will take the Presidency 2012 and decide at last moment that he rather stay as Director of the Dominican Municipal League. He will then pass down the presidency to his daughter Karem Aristy making her the first female President in the DR. hehe
