Here is our Country You can have it
Today I was looking at the commercial for the Ministry of Tourism La Republica Dominicana: Inagotable (HERE IS THE YOUTUBE LINK: YouTube - Republica Dominicana un pais inagotable ) and I noticed something that when I analyzed it bothered me. The video is very nice and well done. It shows the lively side of the DOminican Republic and all the good things our people have to offer. What bothered me was that at the end of the commercial the dominican girl (Protagonist) handed the caracol (represents country) to the foreign (very well American) girl. In my opinion the Dominican government is handing our country over to foreigners. Great examples of this is the DR-CAFTA, tourism (even tnought it is very good for our country there should be limits),as well as many other things. After seeing the videos I was wondering if anyone shared my opinion or am I thinking radically here.

Maybe she is not giving it away, but is sharing, and trusts the little girl not to crush it...

Think it is a well made piece of tourisim ad. Think OP might be reading too much into the symbolism. But then again, it's "in the eye of the beholder"
john
P.S. Thanks for the link. Last nite I had a meeting that had to do with the development of a web site business I am working on and this kind of subject matter and link came up. Will probably use it in the future.

What a wonderful ad. It's a smartly thought out gesture to give the seashell.
To me it means we (DR), has what you want. You'll find there all the things you enjoy having and doing.
Now, if they only had electricity 24/7 and swept the streets clean of garbage.........

Buscando turistas.....
Yes, you are reading too much into it.
It's a commercial targeting foreigners.
The little girl is sharing something with the tourists, in a way telling the tourist how nice Dominicans are.
Think about it, if the intended target are foreign tourists, is the girl supposed to give that caracol to a Dominican?. It doesn't make any sense.
How you came to the "The Dominican government is handing our country over to foreigners" conclusion is beyond me. I have watched that commercial hundreds of times and I got the message the very first time I saw it.
Very nice commercial with a very nice message.
"My country is beautiful, we are nice people, lets share my country".

How about this one,
The Dominican Republic, not pie in the sky, but where you can have your cake and eat it too

Well when the Dominican girl hands the seashell to the foreign girl one conclude that she is giving the country because of all the nice experiences she gets when she has it in her ears. I am not trying to attack this government (eventhough I do not like it) they are all the same trying to convince others to come into the country and do what they wish.
