Shops in Punta Cana will sell most basic needs, but there is nothing in this area that I would call a supermarket. Higuey, which is about half an hour's drive west, has some small supermarkets.
By the Caribbean Aparthotel at Cortecito Beach in Bavaro there is a pretty decent supermarket. Nice selection of wines, begetables, fresh fish and shellfish, etc.
