Barcelo is a good chain but the villas are their lowest rated property in PC, a definite downgrade from the Naiboa.

Default Villas Bavaro

Hlywud has it right about this Barcelo property, it is the poor cousin to the Barcelo Resort and Convention Center located nearby. It is primarily marketed for budget minded European travelers. Amenities are basic: decent clean rooms, pool, buffet style meals, enthusiastic animators, bare bones entertainment. great beach. Villas patrons can go to the Barcelo Resort, but need to pay for the upgrade in services (day & night passes) at a discount off the street value. You would probably get a better deal and services at the neighboring Melia Caribe or Tropical. Regards, PJT

I've heard a lot of good things about the Barcelo Bavaro Villas. It's a 3.5*** resort, just like the Riu Naiboa. It includes three resorts: The Ocean Village, The Village and the Villas. I also heard that the Villas are the oldest part of the complex but you have access to all three, and you can request a room in either the Village or the Ocean part of the complex. You can get a good review of the complex if you look at the section 'Resort Reviews' on Debbies site. The reviews for the 3 hotels are all under "Bavaro Village Beach Resort" at: www.debbiesdominicantravel.com
And I think that being budget minded is being smart. I've been to 4**** and 3*** and I did not see a big difference between the two. As long as the place is like PJT mentioned: decent clean rooms, pool, buffet style meals, enthusiastic animators, entertainment, and you have a good bed, what more do you want. At Barcelo Bavaro Villas, you share the same great beach. Not all North American like to throw their money out the window. Some of us work hard to afford a vacation in beautiful DR and can do it every year by being budget minded. Hope you a nice trip. We will be there this winter.

Cool Thanks for info on barcelos...next resort?

Thanks for all the info on the barcelos. We are now looking at L Romana (either Santana Beach Hotel & Casino or Coral Costa Caribe Beach,Casino % Golf Resort). How are the beaches there, as white as Punta Cana? Are these resort s more secluded or are there other resorts close by. We have to decide soon, so if anyone has ANYTHING to say about either, let me have it.
