Default First DR Visit... help

Hello, I'm new to this site. My husband and I are traveling to the DR in Feb 07. We're going with another couple.. both in our 20's. From what I've read Punta Cana isn't exactly the party place. Are there any local things to do around Punta Cana? Also, we are staying at the Bavaro Princess. Does anyone have any comments about this resort? Also, is it safe to travel outside the resort by ourselves?
Thanks for the any info provided!

Bavaro Princess great resort was there in November 05, lots to do, disco and casino are available. You can easily leave the resort in daylight hours and shop across the street at Plaza Bavaro. Watch out they are very agressive sales people.
You also can walk down the beach to the right facing the ocean past the Occidental flamenco and past the Palladiums to the small village shopping area of Cortecito and be safe. Remember do not flaunt wads of cash and jewellry.

I am sure you will have a great time. There will be lots of people there in their 20's.

Welcome to DR1
