Default Walk to El Cortecito

Wife and I will be staying at the Riu Palace Punta Cana.. Is it an easy walk to El Cortecito. This will be an afternoon trip, can we walk it, or would we be better off taking a cab?

or take a ride in a boat of capitan cook, they pick up the riu even if your just visiting thier supermarket without eating at the beach restaurant, both in the middle of el cortecito.
the watersports center of the riu resort also organizes speed boat taxi rides, they bring you down to el cortecito and pick you up there to go back at a specific time.
have fun

yes, you can take the public bus ride, and it will be fun.
just walk to the main entrance of the resort, the security guys show you where to wait for the bus, coming every 20-25 minutes during the whole day. you tell the driver's attendant you wanna go to El Cortecito.
on their main bus station (Friusa) they switch you to a second bus which is going down to the beach and drops you off at El Cortecito.
have fun

pesos is a bit, bu only a bit cheaper, not worth to change money to pay the bus.
the ride will be $1.- per person per busride.
at the shops you can count on a exchange rate 1 us dollar for 30 pesos mostly, because rates are shown in pesos. the real exchange rate today(changing a bit up and down daily, not much) been 32.90 pesos for 1 us dollar, that would mean to be a 8% more expensive, but don't have to change money for the shopping which you could not change back, on the other side left pesos are a good tipping money.
don't change at the resort, bad exchange rates at many resorts, change in el cortecito, richt on the corner before you arrive at the supermarket is a place named Banca Barrican, they have always a good exchange rate, i use that spot myself.
have fun

within El Cortecito there's one good bar, named La Sirenita, located at the end of El Cortecito, reight beside the side entrance to the Carabela hotel.
beers are $2.- for small bottle Bohemia and $3.- for small presidente, that's why i am always fighting with the lady running the place, i am the presidente drinker, lol.
say hello to Mary Bell, that's the beauty at the cashier.
if you come by bus do a stop at the plaza bavaro, from the corner the bus drops you of it is a 50 yards to the Corner Bar of Steve's, $2.- for all brands of the above mentioned beers, also nice cold, say hello to Leticia from Mike, carful, don't touch, i'm jellous, jejej.
for that extra bus stop the next bus cashes you again $1.- a piece, but that's like half beer extra each of you, should be affordable and is fun.
right there is the plaza bavaro shopping center, so you may do a walk there, too.
enjoy it
Mike
