It must be the Higueyano, the only place there with the parking lot on the right side and two stories.

This rings a bell. I thought it was a pretty decent store, lots of brands to choose from. Then we went to another store, maybe 5-10 drive away, like a Super Walmart They had everything from groceries to Calvin Klein!!

Anyways, back to the topic, it will be nice to have a few more store in and around Punta Cana.

On my last trip to Punta Cana I went to a new mercado just behind the Remax office on the street going to Los Corales. It is new with a good selection, prices were cheaper than Amelia in Corticito. It is nice and close, very convenient for me.

Just recently went by the "Ilumel" bldg.

Any ideas when the Jumbo store will be opening?

that's a good question.
i pas by there several times a day on my way to my boats at the Marinas Punta Cana and Cap Cana.
i've been told they open before the x-mas run 2008, would mean this year,
but i can't see any construction site, yet.

They look like NA supermarkets. They even carry NA products.

Carrefour is hypermarket. It looks and feels the same was as Carrefours in Europe do. It's not a supermarket, it's hypermarket.

Hypermarket and department stores differ by the store size (floor space).

Big Jumbo's (e.g. Megacentro), Sirena Multicentro are also hypermarkets.

Regular Jumbo, Regular Sirena, Iberia, etc. are mini-wal-marts or department stores. You can find food, clothing, books, electronics, hardware, etc.

Nacional, Jumbo Express, Pola, La Cadena, etc. are supermarkets.

Ole, Zaglul, etc. are hybrids, mainly supermarkets but featuring clothing departments.
