Default Grass type and busting out flowering hedge

We just got back from another two weeks at the Majestic Colonial, Punta Cana---just missed the Carnival...too bad.
But then we landed in Toronto the day of a big snowstorm---we got lucky there, many flights got cancelled.

The Majestic, now into its second full year has done wonders with its flora and fauna; everything is growing leaps and bounds.
There is a flowering hedge all over the complex.....reminds me of Kalanchoe....but I know its not that....has a cluster of little flowers in red that were in bloom when we were there....February 21 - March 6.
Also, the grass they are attempting to cover the ground in is doing well in places.....but poorly in others. They are wateirng every day and the sprinklers are coming on but for only a short time...20 minutes and then they shut off.
I can see its growing from plugs and will fill in well....but I imagine will take time.

Anyway, we're coming back....again....we are so pleased with this Hotel and all what's good about it next year. From our first visit in March of '06 we expected to see how much the grounds have blossomed and we were not disappointed and I imagine when we get back next February/March, we'll see another improvement.

What is that flowering hedge and what kind of grass is it.

The hedge is probably coralillo.
