Default Lampi

Hello,
Just got back from the DR, Punta Cana area. Great country, great beaches, great people. While there I had something to eat called Lampi. It was somewhat chewy & rubbery but was very good. I asked at the restaurant what "lampi" was and was told seafood. Asked what kind; fish, squid, eel, octopus etc. but the cook did not understand me. Does anyone know what it is. Thanks
Tom P
