Default Ocean Blue in Punta Cana

Does anyone know anything about the Ocean Blue Hotel? It was recommended to me.

Thanks.

Ocean Blue is a nice hotel. It was recently built (about 3 years ago) all rooms are junior suites, with jacuzzi, 2 beds or king-size bed + sofa-bed, mini-bar restocked every day with beer, water and soft drinks. Hotel comprises about 750 rooms divided into 10 blocks, each 3 stories high. They have a front decoration of an Italian/medieval village.

The food is good, about 7/10, the drinks are very good, very wide selection of domestic and import drinks, including Bailey's, Johnie Walker, Dewar, import Tequila Cuervo, etc.
Main buffet restaurant has a wide selection of foods, salads, appetizers, pizzas, meats, etc.
Several a-la-carte restaurants (Mexican, American, Dominican, Italian, Seafood, Steakhouse, and Gourmet) offer great food. No reservations required. The beach is very beautiful. There are two pools, the pools are awesome and among the biggest in Bavaro. There is a small train that takes you around, but even without a transport it's 5 minutes leisurely walk from the beach to the reception. They have live music every night (jazz, band, etc.), evening shows are average, the sports bar is very good and is open 24/7. They have a coffee house a-la-Starbucks, where you can even get frappucino and selection of Pastries and read international daily press for free. The cheesecake is very very good!
There is also a bowling alley, you get 1 free game per room. There are several pool tables as well. The disco is very nice, with good A/C, lots of sofas, and is usually packed 11.30 pm - 1am but goes on until about 2.30 am.

You cannot go wrong with this hotel. Also known as Ocean Sands.

You asked, so heres my reason(s):

The good:
*) basically no insects! even at night I didn't see any insects attracted to lights. This was amazing compared to back home.

*)mamajaunna

*) Local people outside the resorts seemed very nice and friendly.

*) Macow beach (sp) I would say this is my second favorite beach i have visited. second only to the bahamas.

*) The Ibersostar's are very beautiful

*) The Rancho LLand excursion was fun and the locals where great! The children we met where wonderful. I just wish we would of brought more items with us to give to the children.

The bad:
*)The wind! windy every day and night! never stops!! Hard to book a charter when its blowing so hard (unless you like chumming over the side of the boat)
Kinda hard to book a charter days ahead only to be taken out in 4-5 foot seas.

*) Punta Cana beach was a disapointment. sand wasn't as white as I read, water wasn't as clear as I read either.

*) The reef makes for difficult snorkling. meaning you need to charter a boat to go out OR you can limit yourself to just a couple little spots from shore.

*) ALL the trash along the sides of the public roads! trash, trash and more trash...amazing! why would people dump trash on the side of the road where they live? Actually, how did the trash get along the roads in the middle of nowhere anyway?

Now, I realize some may rip me for such trivial things, but I have to base my opinion on by past visits to the Bahamas. DR is a vacation in the caribbean and so was the Bahamas. In my opinion, there is NO comparasion to the islands of the Bahamas! the white sands, the crystal clear waters, the clam waters, the great fishing, the fantastic snorkling!
For the same money, I would choose the Bahamas hands down...period!
After all, why do people go to the caribbean if not for the above mentioned things?

If I was to return it would be to visit the schools and people not the resorts and cetainly not Punta Cana area
For all the things you whine about, the most valid IS the amount of TRASH on that island....I don't get it either.....on the South Coast, down by the Malecon there are 3 spots that would be great "beach" access...and make EZ spots for tourists to spend money while laying in the sun....there is S--T everywhere....for a country with so many "unemployed", you'd think someone would take the initiative to clean up these areas.....and bring in some chairs and a couple coolers full of beer.......bada-bing....PESOS.

OOOPs, I forgot.....we're talking Dominicans...it's easier to make excuses, ask for a handout and close their eyes to what could be done.

I'm with you, the BAHAMAS has the beaches and the water clarity, you can see it from the air!

And not just Barcelo Palace, all Barcelos (and I have visited all 3 complexes in Punta Cana - Bavaro Beach, Premium Punta Cana and Dominican Beach).

For the same money, go to Riu Bambu instead or Ocean Blue or Bavaro Princess, or invest some more and go to Riu Palace Punta Cana! (you cannot go wrong on the latter one)!

P.S. I work in the tourism industry in the Bavaro/Punta Cana area.
I'd go with his selection as well and will add Melia Palma Real as well.
