Default Communications Officer WTO

The World Tourism Organization is looking for a communications officer to be based in Madrid, Spain. The appointment is initially for two years. The officer will be responsible for planning and executing policy/strategic communications and public relations and as such is expected to carry out the following:
To participate in the preparation of strategic policy positioning papers and briefs in collaboration with the responsible departments;
To provide assistance to members to enhance their communications plans and strategy
To put in place and implement a fairs and exhibitions strategy
To organize conferences on tourism and communicaitons (in cooperation with the press officer).
To participate in peer-level planning meetings and to produce budgets and management reports

Remuneration: US$40,947-US$52,447 single, US$43,655 to US$56,238 per annum with dependents.

Qualifications: university degree (preferably at master's level) in business management or events management. At least 10 years expeirence as a praticing events manager with at least 5 years international experience as well as 5 years in the travel or related sector. Knowledge of UNWTO and the UN Common System and proven familiarity with international tourism policies and issues. Good presentation, report writing skills. Capacity to work long hours and under pressure of deadliens. Willingness to travel as needed.
Languages: excellent knowledge of English, Spanish or French and good working knowledge of the other two languages. Computer skills.
