Default How and When to finding teaching jobs?

Hi all

I was wondering when is the best time to find teaching (English) jobs? My Spanish is basic but I intend to study intensively. I would like a major city (ie Santiago or SD). Do I approach the schools or just read the paper for vacancies? Are jobs easy to come by for native speakers?

I have 4.5 years high school teaching experience.

Thanks
Wild

You should go to the schools directly with your resume. If possible you should ask to speak to the English coordinator and give him/her your resume. Try some of the bilingual schools, they are always looking for native speakers. You can also try English Institutes.
Good Luck!

You are a little late in the year to get a job at the better paying schools. Most of those jobs are filled in February at the job fairs held in the States. However it would be worth checking to see if there are any last minute jobs open both now and during the summer months.

I would suggest you look into ISS (International School Services) and maybe hit the international market next year. I do not recommend that you use Search Associates. We worked in DR for 9 years as international teachers in the fields of physical education and history and just moved to South Asia this year. You don't have to scrape a living as an English instructor at a language academy. We saved money from our teaching jobs and my spending money was the 25 USD an hour I charged to tutor in the afternoons.

Good luck with your job search - please feel free to pm me if you would like more information.
