Default teach in Cabrera

Academia Internacional de Cabrera is hiring. We need two teachers, 4th and 5th grade. Class size is limited to 12 kids. We pay above-average teacher salaries for this area. Teachers start August 27th. Please email amity.beane@gmail.com for more information.

Info:

The Academia Internacional de Cabrera is a new enterprise motivated by the need for a quality educational experience in Cabrera. Its mission is to provide a dual curriculum, both Dominican and American, with additional instruction in French. The educational system that will be implemented is based on the immersion schools in Minnesota, which provide direct instruction in different languages to meet the curricular expecations set for by the state. This immersion/integrated method is very successful in that it provides practical delivery of curricula within the content areas of science, math, reading, writing, physical education, fine arts, history, social studies and technology. The immersion/intregation method is based in the idea that practical, hands-on coursework using the desired languages of mastery will lead to proficiency in multiple languages within one school setting.

With that in mind, the goals of the Academia are to foster mastery of Spanish, English, and French, with courses being taught concurrently in said languages. The future graduates of the Academia will be prepared for further studies in the Dominican Republic, the United States, and Europe. It is a lofty goal; but one which the directors believe is attainable and necessary for the well-being of the children of Cabrera.

The Academia functions as a private school, but is open to inscription to all in the community. The initial year is considered the foundation year in which all students will be treated as new learners of English and French if they are not already proficient. Additional instruction and tutelage will be available to assist those students who have never experienced the immersion method.

The Academia, as required by law, will be using the curriculum provided by the secretary of education of the Dominican Republic. The American curriculum currently uses the Virginia Standards of Learning, a concise document which outlines the learning outcomes for grades k-12th grade.

Wud, thanks....Mainer is in Kentucky, I am the MaineGirl, but really a Maine woman.

Mainer and her hub and kids lived on the North coast for a spell but left due to insurance issues, I believe.

The mainers actually just moved to Pennsylvania after spending 2 years in Mexico. We were in Oaxaca and the last six months, we were in the Baja. We are in PA getting medical things taken care of. Just sort of cruising DR1 to see what people are up to.
