Default Coordinator - Youth IT Training in La Romana

Coordinator -- Youth IT Training, Mentoring and Job Placement for the Tourism Sector Program
To be based in La Romana province. Job to last from 1 March 2009 to 30 September 2010. Salary based on experience.

Through a two-year USAID funded program, the NGO Counterpart aims to prepare disadvantaged young people for long-term careers in the hospitality and tourism sector by replicating a targeted, industry-focused technology tourism career development pilot program in the La Romana-Bayahibe tourism region in the DR.
The full-time coordinator will facilitate the development of a training center and its Youth Mentorship Job Placement Program. By maintaining ties with private and public sector representatives, the coordinator will ensure that the center and program will formally facilitate increased job placement opportunities with potential tourism sector employers through mentored internships, while also addressing the needs of employers for skilled employees.

Responsibilities include:
Establish and maintain relationships with relevant government, NGO and private sector institutions.
Assist with financial and logistical management of the Youth IT Training Center housed at the Ninos de Cristo Orphanage.
Lead the youth outreach program, recruiting and selecting successful candidates for 4-month training programs.
Coordinate and leverage program activities with other donor initiatives in the area.
Identify and hire specialized educators to instruct industry specific courses at the training center.
Work with educators to further develop and implement work-based learning curricula, pedagogical materials and establish criteria for developing training programs and measuring success.
Coordinate the training of 50 industry mentors.
Seek out corporate and social responsibility partnerships to support further development of the orphanage.
Prepare weekly reports, updates and other project communication as appropriate.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, tourism development and/or related field. Must e fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish. Excellent writing and communication skills, highly organized, independent and efficient.
