Default chinese move into cuba / its effects on dr

don't know if you read news in dr1 last week, but china's leader met fidel and said that they would "give" them whatever they needed. surprised that we saw nothing in u.s. press about this entry into the american sphere of influence a la russia in the '60's unless i missed it. my worry is that if the americans (who are really missing the economic boat on cuba) allow china to work trade deals with cuba, then china will want its pound of flesh. that pound of flesh would be mostly fish flesh. feeding a billion people requires alot of fish. chinese factory boats will drain our waters of the few remaining fish we have with no concern about the environmental consequences. thanks dubya! again you can't see the ramifications of your actions.

That is a good point. I know a few people in Canada that are waiting for el capataz to die so they can get in there and buy up land and hotels…I guess the Chinese are going to beat them too it.

Default Early to speculate

It is very early to speculate on the effects on the DR.
By the way many Canadians do own hotels in Cuba with long tern land leases with El Capitan, former hockey player Serge Savard is one, El Senador Resort,
El Capitans brother is waiting in the wings to take over also.

Wait and see if it will happen with the Chinese.

Cuba has given China a concession to exploit that islands nickel mines, only a few weeks after Canada's Falcondridge was sold to China's mining organization. Makes you wonder if China is trying to to corner the nickle ore market, at least in the Caribbean.

Default did not happen

China did not buy the Falconbridge/Noranda Co. Minmetals(China) & the Canadians fell short of an agreement. Why not ? Now they get good grade Nickel from Cuba for a song & dance. And remember......the Chinese are ruthless...they WILL use their ace in hole, when it is time!
