Default A positive step in improving urban sanitation

Have been cleaning out my inbox, and came across this story from last month that I thought I'd pass on:

"Estudiantes universitarios se integran al aseo de la ciudad"
YANET FéLIZ, Listin Diario
03 March 2005

The concept Leonel and Mayor Fernandez are promoting, with money and technical assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is to create a well trained, more professional urban sanitation service, including students choosing waste management as a career (wonder if this will include a true sanitary engineering degree?). It doesn't solve anything in and of itself, but I think it might be a useful start in changing, over time, how things are done in Santo Domingo, and hopefully lafterward, in Santiago, PP, SPM, etc. as well.

Regards,
Keith
