Recalling Darlene's (Planner) admonition to always try to bring this back to how the readers can get involved, and my promise to do so, I have just posted an "afterword" to the "basics" piece on compliance that discusses what you can do:

HI Keith, first congrats to you and your team. I am getting an education. Sometimes I have to tell you that it is a bit over my head as I am a newbie to this stuff. I loved Chiri's worm blog! It is well written, educational and entertaining.......
When I suggested ideas of what we can do as readers: I am specifically referring to people like me who know so very little. I can tell you that I am unlikely to call or write to gov't people. I am however likely to read another article, purchase a type of product, do one small thing a day, ask a question or look at whether the suppliers I use support environmental issues in various ways......
From today's blog: tell me what to start reading to learn more. A beginners guide or website with lingo explained so it will be easier to catch on and catch up...... But put it on the blog for all of us to link to.
Thanks again I think you do a great service to all of us.

Good points, Darlene.
Chiri is a a great writer -- crisp, clean, clear, smooth, brief & always entertaining (all quite unlike me! ). That, and my respect for her intelligence and her experience in the environment field, were why I asked her join the Green Team. [We have some other members with similar skills, such as Pib, who have yet to take their turn at bat.] I've asked Jaime ("Caco") to follow Chiri's piece with one on his personal experience in worm composting and practical tips on how to set up similar projects in the DR. After that, we're expecting a "guest blog" from a DR1er on how he's managing to turn his Dominican relatives onto composting...
I guess in my "basics" pieces I am violating the cardinal rule of writing: think first and foremost of the intended audience. I work so much on these issues and usually write for others working in the area that I forget that some of this is Greek to everyone else. Trouble is, while I know of some decent FAQ's and basics about each of the issues I mentioned, I don't know one short one that pull them all together. Maybe the Green Team should create it's own "glossary" or FAQ or "dummy's guide" briefly explaining what the different is between primary, secondary and tertiary regulatory instruments is, who SEMARN is, what the Montreal Protocol does, etc.? With a permanent link to it placed on the righthand box that shows on every blog page? Whatcha think?
I guess I could also start work on a "further reading" list...
As always, folks, all input welcome.

it's always easy to lose touch with the intended audience when you are passionate about a topic. A nd your audience is varied, it's not just novices.A glossary would be a great start!!!!
I'll give thought to what I dont understand and send you a list.

TexasBill's first piece is now up:
"A Pepillo Salcedo Story"
http://www.dr1.com/blogs/?u=environment
Also posted, with permanent links listed on the righthand side panel, are a new list of acronyms and a glossary of terms & entities mentioned or will be mentioned in the blog. I hope this helps readers. All recomemdations on addition, deletions, improvements or enhacements to either of these welcomed at greenteam@dr1.com

Today a guest blog of sorts from Bill Eichner, husband of famed Dominican author Julia Alvarez:
"The DR & Organics: A Cafecito Story"
http://www.dr1.com/blogs/?u=environment
Hope you like it. I think it brings home some of the issues we explored in our initial series on organics.
Best Regards,
Keith

A sus ordenes, Deb.
BTW, I moved your post about Los Cocos to its own thread, so that it doesn't become lost in this long Green Team thread.
