Well, after a break for the holidays (and much needed rest for me! ), The
Green Team blog returns with a "guest blog" from a DR1 board member:

"Urban Composting is Easy!"
http://www.dr1.com/blogs/?u=environment

Best Regards,
Keith

The glossary has just been updated:

Also, let me take this opportunity to say that the automatic email notification system is finally working correctly, so anyone who wants to be added to the list, please send your address to greenteam@dr1.com

Regards,
Keith

We've just posted another "guest blog," but this is our first in Spanish. I didn't have to recruit this one -- it was volunteered!

"¿Feliz Navidad?"

http://www.dr1.com/blogs/?u=environment

This one involves many of the elements we've been addressing in the blog or had slated to address -- among them, laws not being enforced, government ministries working at cross-purposes, the role of local officials, public safety, and sound pollution.

If you live or have lived in the DR, or spent any length of time there outside of an AI, you'll relate to this one!

I hasten to add that, for those of you who do not read Spanish, the Green Team's blogsite includes an Altavista Babelfish translation button that will translate the whole page into English (or Portuguese or French or Italian or Chinese or German or Japanese or Korean).

Para la gente que prefieren leer en español, también pueden Uds. utilizar el butón de Altavista en nuestro sitio de internet para traducir la página entera desde inglés hasta castellano. ¡Pruebelo!

A new blog from Amity ("MaineGirl") on the "agro-tourism" potential of the DR:

“Get Real. Get Maine.”

And now for something completely different!

The DR's Environment Police have graciously agreed to share with the Green Team their enforcement statistics for December 2005 and the Year-End Summary for 2005. We both thank and applaud them for doing so! More departments of the government, including the Environment Ministry, should practice such transparency and accountability! We're hoping they'll agree to give us monthly updates here on the Green Team blog, so stay tuned!

A new post, this one the first in a new series we're calling "Personal Choices." Its aimed at helping those living or spend long periods in the DR that are interested in doing so to “green” their lifestyle – make your personal impact on the environment positive, or at least less negative. A tip of the hat to Planner for the idea!

We hope you find it informative and useful.

Please write to us at greenteam@dr1.com with any questions you have about how to make “greener” the personal choices you face in every living and/or working in the DR, or any suggestions you have for topics for us to cover or ideas you would like to share with the blog’s audience. We prefer the dialogue – one-way conversations are a bit boring.

Just posted are responses to some questions raised in the Living Forum about points made in Part I of "Greening the DR Wash Day," plus Part II, which tackles the issues of detergent choices and drying. Hope you find this useful, and if you like it, have questions about it, want to disagree with parts (or all) of it, or make suggestions of further considerations, hope you'll do so in the form of posting comments on the blog piece. [Seems for some reason people are shy about commenting on the blog...]

A question to those who may want to buy a mechanical dryer anyway, in spite of all the persuasive arguments we make in favor of line drying -- would you like to see a Green Team piece that also addresses things to keep in mind when selecting and buying a dryer? Would it be helpful?
