Default IAQ Issues

Hello to all.... I have been reading this forum and like the, shall we say, enthusiasm for making or helping to keep the DR a beautiful place to visit and live. I am a frequent visitor, mainly North coast, and think I would like to live there someday. My question is..... Are there any corporations, organizations or industries that are concerned with the indoor environmental issues?

Here in the states as well as Canada and Europe, green buildings are getting alot of interest. Low VOC emitting building materials, lessing the impact on the local enviroment, less pollution, etc.

I realize that power plants spewing particulates is a more pressing topic but I happen to be involved on the inside.

Thanks, Gibbs

To my knowledge, this is not yet on the radar in the DR, not only because the DR is relatively slow to pick up on environmental issues, but also because until the last decade or two people were more accustomed to open-air homes, workplaces and commercial establishments. This may change if more spaces become closed up in order to use air conditioning...

But who knows! Panama, not that far ahead of the DR in environmental regulatory thought, just proposed a regulation on indoor air quality...

Thanks Keith. That's great that Panama would be moving in that direction. I think I might be pushing up daisy's by the time this country adopts something similar.

Back to IAQ...I was thinking along the lines of large hotel chains that would want to implement some preventative measures for microbials instead of their guests getting a moldy room and simply switching them to another room and hoping the next person is not sensitive to fungi.

Something like this or I could pick up Presidente bottles off the beach.

Hmmm, sounds like you're already familiar with the SOP of most Dominican hotels!

Dominican and US american. I can't tell you how many times I have checked into a hotel (nice ones) and had to abandon because of excessive water damage and mold. What do theydo???? Switch me to another room Does anyone contact maintenance? Doubt it. A little bleach is a horrible thing

Default I did that

Iw as in that business for 17 years in Canada and the world. Here we are so far away from that that I would never consider that type of business here.

You can open a window year round.........Sealed buildings virtually don't exist. So the air inside of buildings is 40 x more polluted than extrernal air will never fly here .
