"Sosua Verde" I think will be a great name. Verde (Green) is the color of hope. with this clean up, it's an hope for a better sosua. it is also important that the name be in spanish so everybody here understand the meaning of it. The name should include two words : much clearer for people.
Anyway, I'm totallly amazed at the money that is being raised and the good energy that is surrounding this project. this is really good and positive. in the coming days and weeks, it's gonna get better, more donors will help too and more people will offer their help. This is a good step for Sosua. The lesson here : we can always do better. Excellent !

As a follow-up to Snuffy's suggestion, I believe it should be relatively easy to convince some of the local business, such as Sea World and also smaller local hotels, restaurants and merchants, to participate in a program "adopt a drum" and offer to display the business logo in the drums.
If these drums are nicely painted and spaced every 50 meters or so, it could offer a very efective solution to garbage collection, while providing a great advertising medium.

Who is going to collect trash from the drums, and where is it going to go?

Maybe part of the solution could be to offer these business sponsors "Free" advertising in exchange for the expenses of hiring trucks which will empty these drums every so often.

I was happy to see that they built a dirt wall at the dump on the main road near sea world. It hides the view somewhat. Whoever decided to put the dump there needs to be strung up and beat. With all the businesses there that will benefit from this effort...I would believe that sponsorship would not be to difficult.

I can think of 3 young ladies, still in school, smart, well spoken and honest who could head up a campaign.
They might know each other already, as Sosua is a small town.
I bet they could get more done per dollar, than any of us could dream of, and they would attack both issues, cleaning up, and educating to not litter.
Garbage drums may not be such a wonderful idea.
Anyone living here 10 years plus, could tell you about the garbage bins put out by the government, that lay around for years, with nobody and no equipment to empty them.
If you have school kids cleaning up the beach one day, they will easily convince the mayor to send the garbage truck at the end of the day.
They could set up street campaigns as well.
Some of you may be familiar with the rope accross the street trick for collecting moneys. Something similar to that, only they would stand at the traffic lights, with signs they made in school, with various slogans in Spanish.
They also love to parade, so they could have "Sosua Verde" parades through town.
They could make some hard posters/billboards, to post at the entrance of town.
They could organize clean up campaigns, with a lottery at the end of the day, for the kids who cleaned.
Dominicans love lotteries.
The possibilities are endless.
Youngbloods with lots of energy and desire.
