Thanks again Rick.

I know that my frustration, or for that matter, that or many others, don't amount to much by itself. However, having said that, I can't help but to continue to complain and denaunce situations which have no explainable or reasonable excuse.
The problems in DR are a shame to everyone involved, and that includes:
Government officials, dominican citizens, foreign residents, foreign investors, and also, ignorant tourists.
I know that in the next 30 to 40 years, these comments will mean nothing, and will be obscured with the "natural explosion" that a country like DR has to offer to many, many people trhoughout the world.
It is the obligation of any world traveller, to prepare themselves before a trip, to, at least, learn just a bit about the history, culture and habits of the country they are going to visit.
I am really tired of listening to poor excuses of tourists coming to the All Inclusive resorts, and not being prepared to go outside their compounds.
It seems to me, that these tourists are far more ignorant and guilty, than the worse native dominican criminal.

These tourists are coming from industrialized nations, and should be capable, to say the least, to inform themselfs, or ask intelligent questions and prepare to live, if only, for a few days in a totally different environment, respect the culture and go back home happy. If not, schedule another country for next trip.
What has all this to do with energy? I have no idea. Sorry, could not help it.

Simply stop listening. What make you think you can dictate the way people want to enjoy their vacations. Many want to leave the hassles of daily life behind and simply enjoy the sun, oean, food and drink of the AIs. Why do you think the cruise line industry is the fastest expanding sector of the tourism industry. They provide a no hassle vacation.
If the AI tourists followed your advice and scheduled another country, how long would you expect the DR, which you enjoy, to survive?

I'm not sure why a discussion of the electricity problem belongs in the Environment Forum to begin with (was that your choice, Rafael, or did someone in DR1 management do it for you?), unless we're to discuss energy conservation, energy efficiency, alternative or renewable sources, etc. -- most of which we haven't (yet).

But if we're going to switch to discussing why tourists come to the DR, how they should prepare, and what they should do while there, well, that's a subject better for one of the travel forums.

I know Rafael was just venting and explaining why he raises these questions, so I'll leave that post here for the moment. I'm just saying that if the rest of you want to run with that tangent, I'll have to switch that portion over to a different forum.

Keith as we seem to be going into different tangents I would suggest that you ship this one into another forum. I don't know how Chris feel about in 'Living' but 'Debates' or 'Government' would not be a problem.

Default Want more????

Now here is what I consider an interesting article. From that which I posted earlier you have or should have a broad idea of the major players in the make-up of the electrical system in this country.

Here is an article from 6 Dec concerning the renegotiation of the contracts on energy purchase and sale within the Madrid Agreement. Just a month earlier there was this article reported and if you try to piece together that which is said in all the information that I have provided to date you might be able to ascertain wherein lies the problem. But then again maybe not because this article would tend to place all the blame on the distributors and not on the generators.

But let us not stop there. Just a month earlier in Oct this article came out that should give you an idea as to what is out there and how it operates daily. Okay, think you’ve got a handle on it all now??? Read this!!

Where were we? Ah yes, the Dominican Republic requires about 1800 megawatts daily to function properly. The generation plants as they presently exist could produce enough energy to supply this country with no problem if they would in fact produce. The two new proposed plants that are mentioned in the first article will have the capacity to produce 600 megawatts each which would be 66% of the DR needs if they produced at full capacity. In conjunction with the government owned hydroelectric plants 81% of the DR needs could be achieved. What else is out there? How about wind generated electricity? Hehehe read this.

Notice the names mentioned in the first article and who is referenced. These two plants should be watched as they progress through their supposed construction and watch for the names or any changes that occur in the Montecristi area. Presently it is a Chinese consortium with no other names mentioned, yet…

Rick, very interesting and confusing too.

It seems to me that now, in addition to the "ussual suspects" we will have to add another name to the long lists: the chinese.

Hello Keith R:

It was my initial choice to post it here. However you are right, energy could belong to many forums, including environment.

As far as the tourists comments, etc; my apologies. It won't happen again, unless it belongs there.

They don’t seem to be interested in fixing the problem. There are still taxes on wind generating and solar equipment here. If they where interested they would help people become self-sufficient. I just hope the metro works on hot air and not on electricity so they will have enough energy .
