yes, it's not eco-terrorism, and this subject is being covered in several threads (Maria, please keep it to one) so I am merging two. Maria, do not open another thread on this same subject or it will be deleted.

Maria, your situation is bad. I understand the folks from SOECI who went to your neighborhood to document the conditions you speak of were apalled.

They have sent letters to both the cement company and to the local and federal environmental authorities.

But I gotta tell you something: I don't expect much of anything to come of it in the short term, if past performance is a predictor of future behavior. This is the DR, not CA in the US with their Environmental Police with real power.

You may consider moving as well as continuing the fight.

But, honestly, for an educated person, a teacher, you ought to realize that ranting to anyone within earshot does make you look a little like the "crassy (crazy?) lady".

I'm sure the SOECI would like a local, articulate resident to champion the cause that they support. My suggestion would be to contact them and get yourself on their agenda during their Thursday General Meeting. They meet @ 7pm in downtown Santiago a block from the big department store with the cafeteria upstairs (El Sol? I forget the name). Go to their website: Sociedad Ecológica del Cibao (SOECI) 30 años en la conciencia ambiental dominicana. They have a ton of contact info there.

You'll be welcomed with open arms.
