Default Specific Geographical/Topographical Maps

Hello to all,

I am in search of specific geographical and/or topographical maps for areas surrounding San Felipe de Puerto Plata and Sousa Abajo.
I am also looking for a reputable land survey company located within one of the prior mentioned cities.
Should someone have any pertinent information I would greatly appreciate an immediate response, as we will be acquiring land within the month; once again in the prior mentioned areas/cities.

You should start your search at Mapas Gaar who I believe are the only cartography company in the DR.

Address: Calle El Conde esq. Espaillat, Edificio JAAR, Apto. 410, Zona Colonial.

Thank you for the information!

Would you happen to have a telephone # and/or email address for the company?

The best maps of the RD are to be found at the Instituto Geografico Militar in Santo Domingo.
The US Geographical Survey has outstanding maps of the entire DR. You can get copies (black and white) of specific sections of that map at the CEUR in PUCMM, Santiago. I know, cause i gave them the maps!!

Would anyone be willing/able to emial or post digital pictures of the the area surrounding Puerto Plata and/or Sosua? I am particularly interested in the density of the foliage and the types I will encounter.

There are no maps of this type that I know of available at this time. You might try google earth.

the question is a little pretentious, since this is a tropical island and the foliage will be just that. If you have been told that it is covered in mahogany and fruit trees, there is no map that can tell you that.

You;ll really just have to walk it to see what is on the land.

If you can give us a more precise location of this (or do it by means of a PM, if you do not want the world to know where this is) perhaps Bush Baby or I or one of the other denizens of the area might know what is there. But, sorry, no maps will.

Now, you want digital photos of the area, i would suggest you contract someone for this task, as the costs, time invested, and bother would be considerable. Especially since you are talking about some 400-600 square kilometers, roughly....!!

Just before i clicked "post" on this answer, it occurred to me that "Rocky" posted some pictures of the hinterland (south of the POP-Sosua area) in a thread that talked about four-wheeling trips. Look it up, and see if it helps you.

HB,

Could you tell me the person or group that could do a storm surge analysis for Haina in the Dominican Republic?

There are none that I know of....never a big issue here...don't know why...seems that since hurricanes are a part of life, storm surges are too....

I have never even heard of them being an issue...especially along the South Shore where they would occur.

It is certainly not anyone's worry, that i have heard of. You might want to talk to "kfrancis" --you can PM him--since he lives down south....
