Like I said, nuclear power is the way. BTW, where are we going with this, can't we just all agree on what we need to do to be a cleaner generation? If the scientific community can't agree if global warming is a just a blip on the screen or something more real, how can us laypeople even think we can figure it all out?

Cobraboy, you're late to the party and I don't have time for this this week. I think we've talked about the undesirability of biofuels on this board, uhm ... about 3 years ago for the first time. Don't you read Monbiot? and Jim Kunstler? Monbiot, arguably one of the most activist active greens, called biofuels 'An Agricultural Crime against Humanity'. So, if you know 'acolytes' on the biofuels bandwagon, I can assure you they are not on this board.

That article was 2/8/2008. Of course I know about biofuels. I just thought a more recent article would be welcome.

Guess not.

Onward...

SVO and biodiesel

and referenced in that thread .. this discussion here started in 2005.

FYI, the three posts by Chris & Chip talking about other fuel alternatives the DR can consider have been moved to the "What can the DR do" thread.

Burning fosil fuel is a crime

It is a limited resource with infinitve applications other than burning it for transportation and heating. Look around and try to find something made without petrol.
Hard to find isn't it?
Add to this the rise in fuel prices ( ex ceo of shell predicted last month a price of 200$/barril in the thirth or fourth quarter of 2008)
Biofuel can be a valid alternative, all be it a partielle one.
Look at the vegetable oil we're trowing away.
Large parts of it can be recuperated for heating and transportation
Is this a crime.... No common sence
Different types of lands are unsuitable for traditional agriculture. Can we use them to harvest additional crops for fuel.
Is this a crime.... No common sence

replacing foodcrops par fuelcrops is common sence for farmers if they get more for the latter

I believe in common sence

Greetings

Johan

I always count on burning dung. Readily available, but sometimes leaves an aftertaste on food. The ultimate biofuel.

You're closer tot the truth than you think

I'm planning to cook and produce electricity on dung when i come over to the DR.

Small scale project worked great.
