I see it as the church trying to modernize, but at the same time being antiquated in using the fear factor with the usage of the concept of "sin". It should encourage the use of the intellect rather than scaring people.

No offense Rocky, but I didn't see a similar response to the above statement, among others.

Nonetheless, I agree that we should stick more closely too the topic even though that may be difficult given the subject matter.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Pollution control requires both a carrot and stick approach along with education. My wife ensures that her students are taught about respect for the evironment and enforces hygene rules in the school but if the parents don't re-enforce this at home and the government doesn't punish people or have a cleanliness policy with education, people will continue to pollute. As far as the Catholic Church only the truely religious listen to the priests/pastor in any religion. Even here in Canada where there is plenty of education, reasonably good enforcement, and strong environmental groups, and good general awareness people still throw their garbage where they shouldn't...etc. 100 % compliance is only possible under a dictatorship.
