Campana?
Great M.A.R.!
I will look it up.
Yes, I have been told that it has narcotic effects. That years ago the Dominican people were addicted to it and that Trujillo (???) banned it.
Not too sure, it was a while back that I had heard this.

John, the smell comes out at night and IS mildy soothing, but I have no clue how it was processed for the narcotic effect.

Here's my favorite flowering tree in the DR, the framboyant.
They're all over the island. I never get tired of seeing them.

Thanks again M.A.R. and John.
The botanical name is Brugmansia aurea.
This plant is psychoactive and there are many stories related to this plants effects.
It is endemic to Ecuador and on the IUCN red list of threatened species, but not here at my ranch in the campo.

Well, then, Reese, I guess it's up to you to keep it from being endangered in the DR! LOL

I have it my garden as well, it is supposed to be a narcotic. Our gardener has tried to kill it and calls it mal. I believe the latin name is Datura Arborea. It is beautiful and the fragrance at night is lovely. If you have it you are lucky.

That was my second guess, Brugmansia Aurea. I saw this or something very similar growing wild in the mountains near Costanza once. It was more white than the one in my garden, which starts white and turns pale pink as the flower ages.

The campo where my family is from I heard that a man was giving his brother tea made with this flower, the brother was either sick or had mental problems, not sure of this.
BTW: i just copied the following quote from a site, thought i should share in case anyone was planning on trying this.

They look beautiful, however, those flowers were used to get "HI" and they called " Te de Campana " I DO NOT RECOMEND ANYONE TO TRY TO MAKE THE TEA. very DANGER friends that I know drank the tea and they went in a trip and did not came back to reality yet. So be carefull. But the plant is beatiful.
