Anyone know if pomegranates (the round red fruits full of seeds) are grown or sold in the DR? This fruit has long been known for its health benefits. Many upscale grocery stores and health food stores in the United States sell the 100 per cent fruit juice at prices considerably higher than other fruit juices. Anyone ever tried growing pomegranates here in the DR?
I am the lady with the bush. And no funny comments either. Grew from small twig. Fruits first year. Delicious. They were on sale for Christmas in the supermarkets. Grow as fast as passionfruit. Same family methinks.
Do you suppose that I might see your bush or possibly acquire or buy a twig? And is it possible to root a twig - and if so, in water or directly into the soil? Could one import seedlings into the DR? Lastly, why is this fruit not grown here on this island? Would this be of interest to someone seeking a commercial agricultural venture? (Chuckle if you must but questions are well intended.)
matilda is on the south coast - we need to find a bit of bush or an old fruit closer to home..........anyone have experience of a fruit in Sosua/cabarete ?

We have one but not too sure of its stage of development as yet - will check and let you know but, if we have enough to go around, am sure we can share.
Here is mine. Pics taken about 6 months ago so is much bigger now. I bought it as a baby twig from a local garden centre so they must be available here. It bore fruit about 6 months after I bought it and grows very fast.
