heldengebroed,
This is what it is all about living in the campo of the DR.
Your on the right track.
To have a self-sustaining operation is what my goal is as well.
It has taken me years to get to where I am now and I am still looking at another 5 more years to be totally independant and sustainable.
This is paradise.

If you go to La Pulga (flea market) in Cabarete on Saturday between 10 am and 3 pm look for a girl named Deb she is doing a windowbox grow system. La Pulga is 300 meters east of the Texaco on the east end of Cabarete. I will be there as well look for me at the Organic Produce Table

I am talking with three separate groups... University professors, and three French friends who are all talking about the same thing..... keep us posted on where you are going and how it is coming so that perhaps we can all buy land nearby....

If it were within 2 hours of the Capital, that would be great.. Although with the way that they are building roads, it is getting so that almost everywhere is within two hours of the Capital.

of course, you may be trying to avoid any and all company, which I could completely understand!!!

It doesn't sound like he wants to be a hermit or anti-social just self sustainable using ecological methods to achieve his lifestyle.

Default world going mad

there was the bit about the world going mad...

which of course no doubt is true

and many people who are looking for this sort of self sufficiency are not looking for community

so I just thought I would let him know that there were others

but we are also drawn to being with a couple of hours of either SD or Santiago

The city life really stresses me out, I just hate having to drive anywhere here in the capitol, the streets are almost completely lawless now and there is little to no order. at the moment I cannot afford to move to the country and live my "self sufficiency" dream with my family, so in the mean time, I am fiddling with my little container garden, and reading books and posts from others to learn from their experiences.

by the way, if anyone needs any ebooks on anything gardening or self sufficiency, I have like tons of these, I can send them to you email, just pm me. just tell me your interest, forestry, self sufficiency, animals, bees, whatever, I probably have it.
