I have been looking for a new 52 inch lcd tv in Santiago for a month and need some feedback on your experiences. I would love to compare side by side but all the usual outlets have 2 of the 4 and a side by side comparison can't be done.
Every time I am ready to make a decision, I can't. Being that I have to pay double the price here, I am trying to make the right decision the first time.
Even personal experiences with a slightly smalller size would be great.
Thank you

This Sunday Nov. 22 my roommate and I will attempt to hike to the top of Pico Duarte and back in 14 hours straight.

We simply wanted to do this as a personal challenge. My girlfriend then made things more interesting yesterday by betting us US$1,000 that we could not complete the hike in 14 hours.

Whether we succeed or not, we are both siked and ready to go. Tomorrow we leave for Jarabacoa where we will stay the night and take off around 4am Sunday.

I will follow up afterward as I will most likely be bed ridden for a couple days so will have lots of computer time :)

Wish us luck!!

A car breaks down along the motorway one day, so the
driver eases it over onto the shoulder of the motorway.
He jumps out of the car, opens the trunk, and pulls
out two men in trench coats.

The men stand behind the car, open up their coats and
start exposing themselves to the oncoming traffic. One
of the worst pile-ups in history occurs.

When questioned by police why he put two deviates along
the side of the road, the man replied, "I broke down and
was just using my emergency flashers!"
------------------------------------------------------

A young and foolish pilot wanted to sound cool and show
who was boss on the aviation frequencies. So, this was
his first time approaching a field during the nighttime.
Instead of making any official requests to the tower, he
said: "Guess who?"

The controller switched the field lights off and replied:
"Guess where!"
----------------------------------------------------
One morning, a grandmother was surprised to find that her
7-year-old grandson had made her coffee! Smiling, she
choked down the worst cup of her life.

When she finished, she found three little green Army
men at the bottom. Puzzled, she asked, "Honey, what
are these Army men doing in my coffee?"

Her grandson answered, "Like is says on TV, Grandma --
'The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup.'"

We're going to be in Santo Domingo for a month soon, and our daughter is coming down for some of that time with our grandson who is 3 1/2. It's been a long time since our kids were little, and no one else in my husband's family has young kids. So I'm asking for suggestions of things to do - aside from the beach, playgrounds, etc - with small kids around Santo Domingo. He's too young for a water park. I've seen carnival rides on the western end of the malecon, but they're not always there. When he was younger it wasn't an issue, but I want him to have fun too.

Also - my son-in-law wants to know if there is anywhere he can go to rent/ride an ATV, and where is the best place to rent a jet-ski on the south coast?

I have been remiss and not been there for a few years(since my kids got or of school, and Anthony was still around). Well guess more than just a few.

I believe they are open on Sunday Mornings.

And I assume that they still have the book sales the first Saturday of each month?

Having the service hours would be helpfull.

Anni or Anybody. Also I believe they need the Advertisement

Ola everyone,

I'm going with my family to spend 2 weeks during Christmas break to the North East Coast of DR. We will arrive in Puerto Plata and head to Playa Encuentro for a few days. Then we plan to drive along the coast all the way to Las Terrenas and Las Galeras.

So far, from my research, I've mapped out the following surf spots to hit as we drive East:
- Encuentro (around Cabarete)
- Playa Preciosa (around Rio San Juan)
- El Coson (around Las Terrenas)

My two questions to those that that have been there/live there are:
1. What other surf spots are a must to check and score some good surf
2. I'd like to try to find places to stay that are right in front of the surf spot itself, would that be a vacation rental, a hotel, a resort, I don't care. Ideally I'll just wake up and walk to the surf break ;) . So, if you know the name / website of the hotels, houses, etc that are walking distance to the surf spots above or those you also recommend, please let me know so I can call or email them for making reservations in advance.

Any advice is truly appreciated

Gracias

Felipe

What is the best system, tried and true to get rid of this problem? We installed a new well last spring and returned to have a bad smell in the water. The more it runs the less it smells but it is still there. We drink bottled water so it doesn't have to be pure. Our well supplies water to the main house and guest house and it is being recommended that it be filtered into a large cistern which has to be built. Any way you can think of to avoid this expense? Creative answers appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Everyone! I am a Social Work student, very passionate about international relief work. I have worked with organizations and orphanages in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. I am wondering if anyone has any contacts looking for volunteers between May-August 2010. I will be living in Puerto Plata during that time with two other roommates involved in relief work, and we are looking for new projects!
Thanks!
Second question... and I know I may sound like a lot of ignorant fools, moving over here... what are the duties I have to pay to the DR government when buying a house over here?
