Question Any thoughts on if Peggy could succeed where Pena Gomez couldn't?

I was thinking about an earlier question that I had asked about the DR and Haitian situation when
someone don't quite remember who responded but the
short of it was that Pena Gomez despite his politics would nenver be elected President because
there existed the question of whether he was
Dominican or perhaps Haitain, does anyone think that down the road the same accusation will be made about Peggy. She does kind of look like she could be from the other side.

Default Pena Gomez should have been given a chance

I remember once many years ago he came to MAO. He gave an interesting speech about agronomia, aranceles and socialism. As I remember those days, I ask myself- what if.

What would have happened if he would have been elected president? He really sounded like he wanted to help the poor.
What about his dreams of uniting the DR and Haiti. How far along this process would he have succeeded? Would he have been assasinated?

You know I saw alot of dark skin and indio Dominicans supporting him. I saw many renouncing their Spanish background in favor of their predominantly African roots. To be honest Isaac that kind of scared me. The truth is the DR people are overwhelmingly more African than Spanish . My family was scared.

I specifically remember that my grandfather was willing to sell all if Pena Gomez would have won.

Pena Gomez would state over and over again that the Haitians invaded the DR to free what the DR is today. Its basically a mulatto and black nation. He stated that the Haitians freed the DR from people like my family. White Spanish settlers who enslaved the DR folk.

That type of divisory and inflammatory speeches scared the heck out of us. You see in the DR most people want to play up their Spanish side and not even mention their African side. What will happen when the coin changes sides? I think most people like us will have to hightail outta dere.

Some day it will happen. Also I truly believe that someday it will beome one island country many centuries from now. We won't be there though.

It was my understanding that Peggy was from Argentina originally.

Default One more thing

Isaac even though I don't know you personally I enjoy your posts.I find them interesting and provocative. Hey and we are united against arrogant self serving egotistical exploiters of the poor.
But don't feel bad by what I am going to say.
I know you are an African-American and hopefully someday soon we will along with other DR1 regulars (TW, Criss, Teresa,Mondongo, Trina,Hillybilly and the whole lot ) can sit down in a cafe somewhere in the DR and laugh at one another.

But I hate to say it and I feel a little bit ashamed. Yet I can't believe that our president has hugged publicly the pres. of Haiti. Aristide is a man who has nothing but hate and evil for the DR esp. the white people of the DR. What hypocrisy from a racist bigot like Aristide. He is no different from Duvalier. Duvailer a man who thought that the black race is superior to all races.

These people want to divide the DR within. They want to create a race war.

Smile OandC as always brilliant

As always you have once again graced us with your
elocution for which I dare say is unparalled here.

OUR LOCAL DR1.COM COMMUNITY CLOWN I MEAN COLON
COULD LEARN MUCH FROM YOU.

I as a relative stranger to the processes that control the DR enjoy reading a well written retort
to query that I have posted. I was unaware that
Gomez supported shall we say a dramatic raising
of racial tensions. It would have been interesting to see how far along the path of implementation
his agenda would have progressed if at all.

I need to be far more learned on the man before
I may hope to contribute more on this topic.

Thanks, agian my friend. I hope to see you when I am in the DR. I may not be heading straight to the
mountains after all.

Exclamation O&C you have a good point.

You make a good point.

It has taken me awhile but I to see that Aristide
is not what many of us thought he was say some 7
years or so ago he is to me the wolf in lets say the clerics collar. It does not bother me at all
that you freely express your feelings on race this
is the open forum, at at least you are willing to
be honest with yourself as to how you feel.
As for the superior race there is no such thing
to me we all have our good points and bad if we
could just stop the petty skin color game we would
all progress further than any of us could imagine.

As for us meeting one day you bet as a matter of fact the treat will be mine, I usually make
Hotel Aloha Sol my little retreat while I'm in Santiago.

I really think that I could learn so much from you
and your perspective of the DR just don't start
counting the number of Mercedes that are driving
down the street.

Hasta,

Talking I know I know I know

I know that Peggy is no more Haitain than I am
I was being funny because someone once replied
to a post of mine by saying" that at times Dominicans will first hate you and later find a reason for doing so". The point I was making that
perhaps the same ones who rallied so hard against
Pena Gomez would do the same to his widow.

This is as far as I should go on this subject as
my knowledge of Gomez is very limited.
