Default Dominican Internship Program (DIP)

Dominican Internship Program (DIP) - http://www.danr.org/dip.htm

The Dominican Internship Program (DIP) coordinates 10 summer internship positions for Dominican students in Washington, D.C. This program, organized by the Dominican American National Roundtable in collaboration with Group of Dominican Professionals - Washington and the Dominican Studies Institute at CUNY, offers professional opportunities to Dominican college students in the nation’s capital.

DIP will provide to participants

1) Internship placement in congressional offices, federal agencies, national or international organizations in Washington DC
2) Housing with hosting families in Washington DC Metro area
3) Instruction through the Dominican Studies Institute at CUNY (Academic Credits available)
4) Domestic round-trip transportation to Washington DC
5) Partial stipend for local expenses

Program requirements

The Dominican Internship Program (DIP) requires to all interns 1) a professional behavior in the internship placement; 2) good manners with hosting families; 3) to attend weekly activities and educational instructions, 4) a final personal report of the experience.

To apply for the Dominican Internship Program applicants should be attending college outside the Washington DC Area, from Dominican descendants, and provide by May 1st, 2002 the following items,

1) Completed application form (www.danr.org/dip.htm)
2) One page statement of interest in the program
3) Current College transcripts (can be unofficial)
4) 3 Letters of recommendations (from a professor, a community leader or employer, and a fellow college student)
5) One page résumé
6) Proof of community service

Calendar

May 1 Application Deadline
May 6 Decision will be informed by phone to admitted applicants
May 20-31 Matching students with placement and hosting families
June 1 Arrival to Washington DC
June 2 Orientation workshop
June 3 First day at internship site
July 31 Last day at internship site

How old does the student have to be? Can it be an older student?
