Default In the Time of the Butterflies

Glad to finally see it. There could have been so much more.
Blockbuster should have it available this week.
Anybody got any opinions?

Default I saw it, and was not so impressed.

I bellieve you are talking about the showtime movie. I saw that one and I was not impressed. I felt that even though the theme was a heavy one the movie was "too slow" or not "emotional" for my taste.

Speakin of the Mirabal Sisters, I named my daughter "Patria" after "Patria" Mirabal.

I had ordered Showtime specifically to see that movie, and I did not feel I "took" the message with me.

I must agree. It left me wanting more excitement and emotions. Trujillo was portrayed as sneaky and vindictive. The family was good at conveying the need to be inconspicuous. The sisters were clearly heroes. But there was just something missing...
Has anybody read the book? They are usually better than the movies.

Default The book is exceptional.

I love all of Julia Alvarez's writing but In The Time of The Butterflies is her best (in my humble opinion). I cried at the end. If the movie isn't a fair representation I don't want to see it.

I cry at everything. This movie did not make me cry. Thanks for the thumb's up for the book. It's on my list.
