Dominican Republic Baseball
I need some help with a bit of information on the recently-completed Winter League baseball season in the DR.
(1) I would like to know the EXACT position played (not simply "infield" or "outfield") by the following players: (a) for the Tigres del Licey: Raymond Nunez. (b) for Aguilas Cibaenas: Bernie Castro, Felix Martinez and Luis Polonia. (c) for Gigantes del Cibao: Ramon Espinosa, Julio Ramirez and Ty Wigginton. (d) for Estrellas Orientales: Wilton Guerrero. (e) for Azucareros del Este: Eddy Garabito and Manuel Mayerson.
(2) If the following players are right- or left-handed batters: Raymond Nunez, Bernie Castro, Eddy Garabito and Manuel Mayerson.
(3) If the following players are right- or left-handed pitchers: Arnaldo Munoz, Alberto Reyes, Reynaldo Garciam Duaner Sanchez and Lindsay Gulin.
To whomever can help, MUCHAS GRACIAS!!

Gene: This is a little bit beyond the ken of this board. Perhaps Cleef, our Resident Baseball Fanatic might have this data.
You can also go to the sports pages at:
www.listin.com.do Look for Deportes
www.elcaribe.com.do
www.hoy.com.do
www.diariolibre.com.do
Read the box scores.
Since the Azucareros del Este are now eliminated, you will have to go back to December Box scores to find anything
Also, there is a site for the Dominican Winter League, but I don't have it.. Maybe it is in the archives....
Good luck

http://dominicanrepinfo.com/Baseball.htm
This link has home page (links) to the teams your curious about.
That will get you started. If your coming up short, drop me an email.
Wilton Guerrero, Julio Ramirez, Duaner Sanchez and Alberto Reyes are all on 40 man rosters and can be found on any MLB site; Espn, whatever.

Dom Rep baseball
Thanks to those who replied.
I have had access to the individual team pages; unfortunaltely a lot of the info I requested from you folks is not on those pages. I'll try some of the links suggested here.
To Cleef, nope this isn't Fantasy baseball related, but you're close. I have played tabletop baseball game called Cadaco All Star Baseball since it first appeared in 1941 (yes, I *am* that old!), at which time it was called Ethan Allen All Star Baseball. It was produced anew every year through 1993.
The game utilizes thick card discs, each representing one of the Major League All Stars from the previous season. Each disc is divided into 14 wedges, with each wedge representing an offensive category. Several years ago I learned how to make the discs using a popular word processing program. I have friends who also like to make their own discs, especially since the game is no longer produced, but they mostly focus on major league ball, while mine is different.
Until 1993, I spent most of my adult life in Asia and am quite fond of Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese baseball. Having studied Spanish for five years when I was young, I still have an interest in things Latin American, and that includes baseball. So it is natural that I focus my disc-making, and playing of the game, on those two regions. I love the language challenges as well as the "hunt for info" that go into this. It's a great hobby for baseball fans!
Thanks again to all for the help.

Here is the (official?) website for the Dominican Baseball League, or whatever its called.
http://www.beisboldominicano.com/
Here you will find standings, leaderboards, links to the websites of the individual teams, etc.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Are you interested in this too?
Dominican professional baseball is not inmune from the corruption that goes on in DR. The gambling that goes around baseball in betting parlors has affected the outcome of games. People are beginning to doubt the integrity of what once was recognized as an honest league of teams.
For instance, the outcome of last few years elimination tournaments, better known as "Unos contra todos" or "Todos contra uno" has been in doubt. Just two days ago the Estrellas Orientales were eliminated from the championship tournament thru a suspicious power play by the Aguilas Cibaeñas team. The Eagles(as called in DR1) allowed six consecutive base on balls, something unheard of in the annals of baseball championship series or regular season baseball, to lose to the Leones del Escogido and avoid playing the Estrellas.
Some saw this as an attempt by the Eagles to play the weaker team in the finals, but as people in the streets see it, and as commentaries from radio and TV programs testify, it is seen as as a deeper problem. Many believe this had to do with illegal betting.
The league also has done little to stop the increasing amount of steroids, drugs and alcohol used by players, and many players are involved in scandals which are covered up in the press. There are players who do not pay alimony to their children and others involved in abuse of women. Players are also involved in the current corruption of government thru the use of tax evasion. There are players bringing in luxury cars without paying a dime in taxes, thanks to the help of politicians, who are rewarded with free exposure with the players during political campaigns. Politicians also help players falsify legal documents to reduce their age and many other legal maneuvers, such as illegal visas and passports.
Could this be why Sammy Sosa has been in hiding recently? His Dominican social life has been reduced to resting and touring resorts. He used to be involved in the social and political life in DR. Has he finally understood the dangers of associating with politicians and the government?

There are good points to what you say, but what about the players who have had bad reputations in their younger years, and although they have tried to turn them around still have the dirt thrown at them.
How about the ones who run charities for their communities, the ones who have children and decide to take a year from a major league team so that they can get custody of their children. These players still get the bad end of the stick in the US and the DR.
Of course my opinion is that Las Aguilas son Campeones.
