Amelia Vega reads the Top Ten

Last night I watched Amelia Vega as she read the Top Ten on the David Letterman Show.
I prepared for the worse but surprise, surprise, she did it with a lot of grace.

There was no interview but when she finished Letterman kissed the hand of the young lady - as he usually does - and made comments about her beauty.

Here it is :

Top Ten Things I'd Like To Say Now That I'm Miss Universe (as presented by Amelia Bega of the Dominican Republic)

10. First thing I'm gonna do is pardon Martha Stewart
9. Don't bother asking for my number unless you're Mr. Universe
8. Without makeup, I look like Don Rickles
7. Not only am I Miss Universe -- I have just been named editor of "The New York Times"
6. My accent is fake
5. A message to all the kids: just be smoking hot and you'll do fine
4. Now that I got the title, I'm just gonna sit on my ass and eat pancakes
3. Tomorrow the tiara goes on e-bay
2. I can't believe Letterman cut his finger making spaghetti -- what a jackass
1. I corked my bra

Did you expect anything else? Every Miss Universe I know has been to the Letterman Show. This is just a routine and they all have done well. After all, they practice the skit.

What calls the attention today is the reported singing career plans for Amelia Vega. Yesterday's papers reported that she starts her singing career begging for a few songs from her uncle....not quite dignified for a universe queen.

The fact that she will need her uncle's propulsion missile as a crutch to build her career just shows she is not as bright as we make her to be. This is a huge mistake. If anything she should have gone abroad, instead of seeking local help(like maybe Kike Santander).

However, she has an uphill battle. Competing with a bunch of long-legged girls is not the same as competing against the likes of Thalia, Pilar Montenegro, Shakira, Christina Aguilera and J-Lo, who are just as beautiful, super talented, experienced and well financed, not to say super-rich.

To this date, every Miss Universe who has tried to succeed singing has failed miserably, including beauties who came from the greatest springboard for young artists, Puerto Rico.

The two that tried lately were Denise Quinones and Dayanara Torres. Both these girls started their Miss Universe career in better footing than our queen. Both were and are better known and were in the spotlight for years. Dayanara went even farther. Just like Amelia is trying to use her uncle, Dayanara went after Marc Anthony's arms. But Marc Anthony overwhelmed her. She was known as Marc's girlfriend(now non-working wife), instead of Marc being known as Miss Universe's boyfriend. Marc turned out to be the star. She stayed home to nurse their baby.

In this case, Amelia will always have her uncle's shadow behind her and she will have to overcome that and her weak voice.

My prediction: Another failed Miss Universe singing career.
My suggestion: Amelia, go back to school, get yourself a degree(at least get your high school diploma and pass the Pruebas Nacionales(SAT and Iowa Tests equivalents in DR) and get a Community College Degree(I don't think she qualifies for a major college) and go to work in sales and publicity. Forget about being a top model. You may be a beauty queen, but a top model you are not!! At best you can do hair products and after you surgically fixed your GUMS, now your teeth look perfect....good for a contract with Colgate.

Out of those only Shakira and Christina have any kind of talent...

Thalia, Pilar and J-Lo can't sing!!! The only talent they have is being good looking and having a great marketing firm behind them!!!

I think Amelia will do just as good as them...I haven't heard her sing, but if she can at least do what those three do, she'll be just fine!!! And if she has her uncle's support, there's no question she'll make it!!!

Golo what makes you an expert in the Music Biz? JL Guerra can spring board her career and that is a fact if she does have talent with the help of a little label LIKE SONY MUSIC OR UNIVERSAL MUSIC yes she will be able to blow up!
RULEZZZZZ OF THE GAME:

1. She needs to make POP MUSIC only!
2. Merengue is out of the question.
3. Bachata should never cross her mind.
4. She needs to consider moving to mexico.

1- I don't recall Vega as been a native Dominican name. It is a lot more common in Puerto Rico. Is her family Puerto Rican?

2- Who is her uncle?

1. Amelia Vega's family is not Puerto Rican. They are Dominican. Amelia Vega's family are the Vegas from Santiago. Very well-to-do family. Cattle.

2. Her aunt is Nora Vega, Dominican designer, and Juan Luis Guerra's wife. For publicity purposes, the media highlights that Juan Luis Guerra, singer, musician, composer and founder of the group "440", is her uncle.

This GUM thing is really cracking me up. I went back on the Miss Universe site and looked closely.. can't see the GUMS. I know what he means by big GUMS but does anyone have a picture of her so I can please see it? BTW... I'm a big proponent of a nice mouth. I had some help on my former "canine" teeth and it was the best thing I ever did. Now I just need to get some of those DSL's

I agree with MusicQueen. J-Lo is only a product of her marketing. She doesn't have the song writing nor the singing talent of Madonna.

Amelia Vega is certainly sexier than Kelly Osbourne. If Amelia can sing and record a half decent pop song, she should do just fine.

Yeah, I have to agree with Theresa about this GUM thing. I don't see it either. If there was some validity to it, I'm sure it would have surfaced by now. Regardless, Amelia is a total stick of dynamite.

Petaka, vega is not a common name in DR? what about MATOS is it common in DR?
