Default too bad for calderon and his crew

the budget in the united states spent on combatting drugs is ridiculous. if the u.s. would do this kind of thing the country would be in better shape. be proud of the dominican republic for stepping up to the plate and not letting things get out of control.

unfortunately your freedom is at stake.

Default Dear Ericksson...

MRS. MUSIC QUEEN i'm a Tego Calderon die hard with limitations, have you ever being to a Tego New York Concert or one of his concerts in Puerto Rico, i guess not since you find the newpaper info so odd............

anything that promotes drugs to the kids needs to be shutdown; even at your SALSA 98 stage this past (CALLE 8) I WAS THERE and saw afew 13 year old little girls (THEY COULDNT BE OLDER) PERRIANDO AND (((SMOKING WEED))) (((YERBA))) (((MARIHUANA))) do you think that is wright? just wanted to know....................
NO...I don't think that's right! Don't misunderstand me trying to defend Tego...Of course I don't approve of little boys and girls 'perriando' and 'smoking weed'...but do you think they do it because TEGO is telling them to?

C'mon!!! I have seen PARENTS teaching little girls to dance like that (perriando)...they laugh and encourage it...when they are 3, 4 or 5 years old!!! And then complain when they turn 13 or 14 because they are doing the same thing at Calle 8 while listening to TEGO...

Give me a break...THAT KIND OF EDUCATION BEGINS AT HOME, PEOPLE!!!

The PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR KIDS ACTIONS, NOT THE MUSIC OR THE PERFORMERS!!!

Ok...so Tego is not welcomed in the DR...are they gonna ban everyone else?
Eddie Dee, Ivy Queen, Los 12 discípulos, Wisin & Yandel and the rest? How about if 50 cent or any of the American rappers, hip-hop artists decide they want to perform in DR? Will they be banned also? Or maybe since the majority of the population doesn't understand English and can't grasp the lyrics it would be OK?

Like I said...lots of questions...

Golo100 once again...congratulations on your personal campaign against TEGO...

I don't believe kids act a certain way because any singer tells them to. The point here is: Openly promoting drugs is not something the DR is willing to forgive, they are very strict about it. God only knows the DR has many problems, therefore, I have to side with them in their endeavor to keep these performers in check and keep the situation under control. if banning them is the answer, so be it.

On the contrary, my campaign is not against Tego. It is for Tego. I want Tego to come back. If you recall, I have quite a few critics who dislike my favoring regetton music over merengue. Now the tables have turned because I don't agree with one of my favorite regetton singers' last concert strategy. If you notice, I am trying to join people who want him to come to terms with the situation, apologize for his mistake and go on with the rest of his repertoire. With the exception of that one song(Bonsai) and the videos supporting it, Tego had no problems. I dont recall any other of his CD's songs with illegal material. Sure, most regetton is offensive to women and the language is foul. But the problem here has to do with drugs, a very bad situation for DR youth right now and it is "illegal".

Default Tego Calderon really blew it this time

Hello! everyone. I am new to this forums and web page. I have read your comments about Tego and what happen in Dominican Rep. My home contry. I like to say the following: Tego is a public person and many people follow and like his music, like us young adults, teenagers and kids. Since, he is getting to be more and more famous . He should be more careful in what kind of songs, he sings and what kind of symbols he shows in his concerts for the most important followers the kids and teenagers whom are little persons developing to be good members in the future,"Hopefully". We young adults already know to differenciate from right and wrong. But, teenagers and kids do not know it yet !! This is why the authorities in our country had taken actions in this matter because a stop have to be done somehow about drug matter. I wish not to offend anyone. Lets not fight and try to settle the problem by bringing Tego to Quisqueya in a concert without promotion of drugs. Rosario

Red face

I agree with what Narcosis said. In DR, double standards are the rule, not the exception, laws are enforced when convenient, and people act like hypocrites by telling others don't do drugs when their kids are sniffing coke in their cars and in some cases, in their own houses. It happens all the time. However, I don't condone that crap. I have a cousin who started out with "small-time" drugs and ended up having 5 kids while she was on crack. Thank God she is now doing great, been clean for 10 years and is a manager at one of The Gap stores in NYC. Anyways, I digress. What I want to communicate is, Dominican government officials shouldn't tell an artist or a person to not promote the use of drugs and then allow their country to become THE gateway for drugs on the Eastern Seaboard and the largest drug market in the world, the US. I was reading a US government report not too long ago, I'm pretty sure others have heard about it, but 40% of the drugs that come into the US go thru the DR. It's a shame to see what the DR has become. However I understand what Golo is trying to do and I commend him on it. He's actually doing the right thing. I just wanted to point out how hypocritical Dominican authorities and the general public can be when it comes to the drug issue.

Default Tego is not alone

Well, on the good side for Tego, several key Dominican stars are supporting Tego in his bad days with DR. Corporan de los Santos, Joseito Mateo(the elder king of merengue) and Tono Rosario started a campaign in support of Tego. Their effort will be concentrated in New York. I don't understand this, since the problem is here. I don't see much success being that the conservative media stars will not support Calderon and the concert is off anyway, since Rosario decided not to play unless Tego was there.

Some people are going off the wrong tangent(media, reporters, and columnists) in this issue, using the controversy over "doble sentido" or double-meaning in merengue and other Dominican music. And true, much of the "merengue de calle" or street type music suffers from insulting stuff to women, sex and dirty words. But one thing is to use gross wording for music and another one is promoting drug use. Cussing, calling people names and spitting bad words is not a criminal offense(at least not prosecutable in DR). But drugs and their promotion is illegal.

Another excuse being used is that black american rap music popular in DR radio stations is full of the same thing, but is not prohibited. The problem here is that our authorities don't have people trained to spot these things unless they hear something at the international level. Our government is full of people who cannot even speak or write Spanish well, and it's even harder to find English speaking people. Furthermore, these bands have not participated in concerts themselves breaking the law on the spot, like Tego did. If they did, they would be treated the same way, just like Bunbury.

But I have found the solution and nobody has taken it up, including Tego's supporters. Why won't Tego just apologize to the Dominican people, admit that he blew it and he will be again back on track as currently the most popular musician in DR among youth, if not across the board. Tego's music continues to be #1 and will continue to be on top this entire year. He owes it to Dominicans to be on our good side. We have treated him well and gave him lots of money thru concerts and CD sales. He will be stupid to become a renegade and adding more fuel to the controversy considering that the regetton crowd is trying to clean up its act to join the maintream popularity. He will not win this one unless he follows my advice. His *** is too hot now.
And Puerto Ricans will not be able to blackmail us with backlash like they did with the Laura Hernandez case. Besides, Tego is being attacked in PR for the same problem.

Thumbs up

I agree with Golo100. Tego should apologized and I belive it will be the first step in solving the problem. "Errar es de humanos y es de sabios los que lo admiten".
